#206 - Mobile Hunting Camps for the Traveling Hunter w/Sam Soholt

The Hunting Public

Sam Soholt is a long time friend of THP. Sam and his brother Josh are huge advocates for public land and over the years he has built some of the best mobile hunting camps that I have ever seen! The first hunting rig that he built was The Public Land Bus which is an incredible  setup for big groups and also helps raise awareness for the protection of public lands across the country. More recently Sam built The Public Land Van. The van is a smaller version of the bus and is the mobile hunting rig that a lot of hunters would dream of having! In this episode, Sam and I talk about how he got the idea to build the bus, what our original camping setups were when we started traveling to hunt, and tips for how you can create your own mobile hunting camp! Topics Include:  -the bare necessities that you need to travel to hunt -what we have done to improve our mobile hunting camps -where you can camp on public land Sam's Instagram Page - https://www.instagram.com/samsoholt/?hl=en Sam's YouTube Page - https://www.youtube.com/c/browningbuck87 THP MERCH - https://bit.ly/30ZC1rm - Get 10% off THP Merch w/Code THPPODCAST GoWild - Save 10% on orders w/code THP - https://bit.ly/3i4c15r OPTICS - 10% off Vortex Optics w/code THP10 - https://bit.ly/3AOdKDQ TURKEY CALLS - Get 10% off Woodhaven Calls w/coupon code - THP2022 - http://bit.ly/2IagiSe MAPPING - Get 20% Off OnX Hunt! PODCAST EP. 118: Conservation Crossing with Josh & Sam Soholt

On The Wing Podcast

Brothers Sam & Josh Soholt, owners of Public Land Tees, take a break from turkey camp to join host Bob St.Pierre for a chat about their love of hunting and their commitment to conservation. Highlighted during the discussion is the brother’s “Conservation Crossing” effort, which is helping Pheasants Forever, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, Mule Deer Foundation, Delta Waterfowl, and National Wild Turkey Federation generate members through a creative t-shirt promotion. Episode Highlights:• The brothers talk about their motivations for donating $5 from every Public Land Tees product they sell toward conservation efforts. They also tell the story of developing the “Stamp it Forward” promotion that has helped generate thousands of Duck Stamp sales, and in turn, funding for upland and wetland habitat. • The Soholt’s also participated in the Public Lands Pavilion at National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic 2020 in Minneapolis that helped create the new Cupido Wildlife Management Area which will be formally dedicated on August 6th in western Minnesota as a new public property open to all. • The guys have a funny discussion about the Conservation Crossing t-shirt design and how it riffs off the Beatle’s Abbey Road album cover design. S4 E6 - Conservation Crossing with Sam Soholt and Marshall Johnson

Mule Deer Foundation - Talking Mule Deer Podcast

This episode of Talking Mule Deer features our conversation with the co-founder of Public Land Tees, Sam Soholt. Sam tells us about how he got his start in the outdoor industry as a photographer and videographer, and about his modified school bus that he used as his base to hunt and raise awareness about public lands with an active social media presence. His journey to learn about conservation issues led him to come up with the Conservation Crossing tee - buy the shirt and you also get an annual membership to MDF and four other conservation organizations. Sam lives in North Dakota, and we loop in our own Marshall Johnson to talk about the projects that he has helped coordinate in the state to improve mule deer habitat and provide hunter access to private lands. Marshall tells us about the cooperative efforts for conservation and to enroll landowners in the North Dakota Private Land Access to Sportsmen (PLOTS) program, with funding from an Outdoor Heritage grant, private companies like Bobcat/Doosan, chapter volunteers, and support through the ND Petroleum Council. We wrap up talking about the big picture conservation efforts that MDF is doing and how people can get involved through becoming a member, volunteering, participating in events, and even purchasing a Conservation Crossing tee!
