Why "The Hustle" Isn't All It's Cracked Up To Be & How To Operate In Flow with Charlene Izere

Self care is more than just bubble baths and face masks. It’s about diving deep and getting to the root of your trauma, triggers and boundaries. It can be as simple as asking ourselves often “What am I actually feeling?” and being honest with ourselves about the answer.

The truth is: being selfish is okay. You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others.

Burnout will impact your ability to show up if you aren’t acknowledging it and practicing self care.

Self care is for men, too! It’s important for all of us to feel okay. It all starts with us having these conversations with one another.

In today’s episode, we hear from Charlene Izere. She is the founder of both Wellness Delivered and Melanin and Money; events that focus on how self care meets community care as well as networking for women of color and their allies.

Join us as we talk about why self care is about thriving instead of surviving and ways to get started in self care and community care today.

Wellness Delivered and Melanin and Money will be taking place in the Knoxville, TN and Atlanta, GA areas. Follow @charleneizere on Instagram for more information!

“Pink Diamonds”/ Favorite Quotes

“Getting a booty has helped but it’s also about how you feel and how you act.”

“Bougie means feeling like the best version of yourself without apologies. I live the best life that I can so that I can help other people.”
“Envision what you want your next 6 months of your life to look like and then ask yourself what steps do you need to take to make that happen? Make long term goals but then focus on the short term goals and steps.”

“In the beginning you are not going to see the curves so that is something that you are going to have to do something that pushes you.”

“At the end of the day, it’s not all about the booty...and it just so happens that now I have a booty but it’s more about the mindset and lifestyle.”

“If you are not consistent you are going to stay right where you are.”

“Black women in fitness...I want people to look at me and say, ‘She did it so I know that I can do it too.’”

“It breaks my heart to know that there is some girl looking at Instagram and saying to herself, ‘Why isn’t there someone who looks like me?’.”

“It’s not about competition, it’s about community.”
What does “femininity” mean to you?
For me it means feeling confident and owning your mind and body.

What would you tell your 11 year old self?
Listen girl, don’t be in a rush to grow up. At the end of the day life goes by so fast, you are going to grow up and there is a time for that but for now just slow down and enjoy the moment.

What would you tell your 21 year old self?
I would tell her that she doesn't have to have it all figured out. I remember when I was 21 I was thinking “I don’t know what I want to do with my life, I want to have it all figured out, married by this time, kids by this time, career by this time, etc. Now I would tell myself, ‘Girl chill! You don’t need to have it all figured out.’ Life will happen, you have to kinda go with it. Obviously have some plans but also realize that there are things out of your control and to follow God along the way.
