Real Grief – Real Healing, with Mindy Corporon #27 | Wringing Positivity From Anger to Leave a Legacy of Kindness w/ Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, MD, MPH

Experience of the Soul Podcast Channel

I had the honor of meeting Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish in Toronto, Canada when he asked me to accept their 2019 Lifetime Achievement Luminary Award. Humbled to receive this award I was also encouraged by the amount of support Daughters for Life Foundation is garnering from educational institutions in Canada and the United States. Striving to advance, invest, and promote higher education for young women living in the Middle East, Dr. Abuelaish has taken the deep personal feelings of anguish and anger and created monumental beauty for the benefit of others. His harrowing and inspiring book, I Shall Not Hate; A Gaza Doctor’s Journey on The Road to Peace and Human Dignity, has been made into a play allowing another form of art to help transcend hate and teach peace. Germany, Austria, Israel, the United States and now Belgium are hosting the play in their respective languages including Hebrew and Arabic. “Don’t underestimate yourself”, said Izzeldin’s eldest daughter, Bessan. Bessan (age 21), Mayar (age 15), and Aya (age 13), lost their lives alongside their cousin, Noor (age 17) in January 2009, when an Israeli tank fired into the Abuelaish home.In today’s podcast, “Wringing Positivity From Anger to Leave a Legacy of Kindness” you will hear a theme that resonates in many of my interviewees. They are hurting and from their pain a path onward is created. It is their path onward, their resilience that will leave a legacy of kindness for generations to come. I am reminded of Susan Bro’s message in episode 24, “If You’re Not Outraged, You’re Not Paying Attention.”We will have a wonderful opportunity to hear more from Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish when he is in conversation with the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Senior Pastor, Adam Hamilton and The Temple, Congregation B’Nai Jehudah Senior Rabbi, Art Nemitoff. Hosted by the Faith Always Wins Foundation, you can register for this virtual experience and more created for SevenDays® Make a Ripple, Change the World.Friends, as you listen, I ask you to contemplate what actions you take daily in order to leave a positive legacy for generations behind you.•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. Real Grief – Real Healing, with Mindy Corporon #26 | Take the Challenge and Transform It to Life w/ Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, MD, MPH

Experience of the Soul Podcast Channel

Knowing what it is like to have lost my father and son to murder, a hate crime, in fact, I often hear from others, “I can’t imagine.” My response may come across too practiced...because it is. “I hope you never have, too”, is what flows from my mouth in return.Jennifer Ross, President & CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg, Pennsylvania was prompted to place me on a stage with a five-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee and internationally recognized human rights activist, Izzeldin Abuelaish, MD in November 2019. She had read his book, “I Shall Not Hate; A Gaza Doctor’s Journey” outlining the three tragic murders of Besan (20), Maya (15), and Aya (14), three of Izzeldin’s daughters and his niece, Noor (17), by an Israeli tank in Gaza on January 16, 2009. Izzeldin is Palestinian. His book is heart wrenching and detailed as he takes us through his childhood to the trials of medical school, all while living life as a refugee. Yet, his inspiring heart warms us in every chapter of his life because Izzeldin takes the challenges presented and transforms them to life.I was honored that Jenn Ross saw me in a similar light and agreed to join their event. Upon meeting Izzeldin I almost said, “I can’t imagine”. Instead, I paused and said, “Thank you for all the good work you present in our world, from the heart break you face daily.”Izzeldin has a large personality and is generous with his words and his edict on actions. “Challenges are man made”, you will hear him speak of how often man creates conflict and therefore, many innocent suffer. “Wisdom, kindness and courage” will move you to take some action of your own. How can you not, after hearing from a man who lost so much and yet, has the grit, fortitude and sheer will to wring the good from bad.Documenting this show notes I am reminded of an earlier Real Grief - Real Healing Episode with Wesley Hamliton. Wesley shares how he struggled and yet found the good in his life and in others.Episode 26 is only part one of a two part series. We had much to discuss and still do. I was left wanting for more and you will be, as well. Thankfully, Izzeldin has agreed to be part of our SevenDays® Make a Ripple, Change the World experience, specifically on Thursday, April 22. You can register using this link.I completely understand how Izzeldin continues to operate after losing so much. His deceased children live with him every day in his heart. Offering us a human message to find forgiveness among one another and create a world filled with kindness, while praising the women who nurture and bring forth life...this man has much to offer each of us.Enjoy “Take the Challenge and Transform it to Life” and share how you are inspired after listening to Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish!•Find Mindy on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MindyCorporonLLCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindycorporon/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MindyCorporonLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindycorporon/•This channel is made possible because of listeners just like you. Curing Hatred With Forgiveness & Education: A conversation with Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish

Jaipur Bytes

Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, 2010 Nobel Peace Prize nominee and internationally recognized human rights and inspirational peace activist, in conversation with Jaipur Bytes host Lakshya Datta. Dr. Abuelaish talks to Lakshya about what hatred does to a person and to a community, where he gets his strength to deliver his message of hope and forgiveness, why political leaders need to humanize and not politicize, how health and peace are inter-connected, and why he started the Daughters For Life Foundation. Dr. Abuelaish is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Office of Global Public Health Education & Training at the University of Toronto. In January 2009, an Israeli tank shelled the home of Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish in the Gaza Strip and killed three of his daughters: Bessan, 21; Mayar, 15; and Aya, 13. This tragedy occured only minutes before Dr. Abuelaish was scheduled to speak live on Israeli television. His recorded cries for help captured hearts and headlines in Israel and around the world, and his response to the loss of his daughters was followed by international audiences. Dr. Abuelaish never sought to seek revenge or sink into despair and hatred. Instead, he called for those in the Middle East to stop the bloodshed and facilitate discourse for mutual understanding. His strongest hope is that his daughters will be the last sacrifice on the road to peace between Palestinians and Israelis. He started and chairs the Daughters For Life Foundation in their memory, based on the belief that lasting peace in the Middle East depends on the empowerment of girls and young women through education, which will allow them to become agents of change for the betterment of life throughout the Middle East. His 2010 book "I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor's Journey on the Road to Peace and Human Dignity” has been translated in to 23 languages. Dr. Abuelaish will be speaking at JLF Toronto on September 28. Startup Canada Podcast: Canada's Entrepreneurship Podcast

Entrepreneurship can be a driving vehicle for hope and reconciliation. After experiencing a tragedy no parent or human should face, Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish turned to entrepreneurship as a way to advocate for peace, while empowering a generation of women and girls. “Businesses can play active roles in the prevention, settlement, transformation and stability of communities… It can lead to social, human impact. It should be based on moral human principals and that’s what I fully believe. [Entrepreneurship] is about exposure and connection and messages of peace and humanity.” Dr. Abuelaish is a Canadian-Palestinian medical doctor, teacher and an internationally recognized human rights and inspirational peace activist. Born and raised in Jabalia Refugee Camp in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Abuelaish is a four-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee and is known as the “Gaza Doctor” who has dedicated his life to using health as a vehicle for peace. In memory of his daughters, he established Daughters for Life Foundation. Believing that lasting peace depends on empowering girls and young women, it provides scholarships enabling young women of any Middle Eastern nationality or faith to pursue studies otherwise inaccessible to them. In this week’s #StartupPodcast, we’ll talk to Dr. Abuelaish about the power of peace and how he’s working to distinguish the rising acts of hatred around the world. Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish's remarkable story of forgiveness.

Allan Gregg in Conversation (Audio)

Palestinian doctor Izzeldin Abuelaish is the author of "I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor's Journey". Dr. Abuelish has every right to hate; in 2009, during the Gazi war, the Israeli Defence Force bombed his house; killing three of his daughters and a niece. Remarkably, Dr. Izzeldin resolved not to hate the Israelis but to try to do something positive so that the sacrifice of his daughters would not be in vain. Hate, he believes, is the strongest weapon of mass destruction. Since that time, he has dedicated his life to bringing peace to the Arab/Israeli conflict. Dr. Abuelaish now lives and works in Toronto.
