Dr Tim Wilson - Violence: the Human Cost of Partition
QUB Talks 100 – The Partition of Ireland: Causes and Consequences
Contributor:Dr Tim WilsonTalk Title:Violence: the Human Cost of PartitionTalk Synopsis:This talk explores the context and nature of the violence that accompanied Partition and the establishment of Northern Ireland and also the lasting effects/significance of the events of that period. It describes the scale of sectarian violence and related disturbances in Belfast and elsewhere, including workplace expulsions, rioting and the forced movement of people from their homes. It suggests that events in Northern Ireland were part of ‘a wider, all-Ireland conflict’ but that they also had their own ’dynamic and… momentum’ and that all of this was ‘complex, shifting [and] layered’. And it details how violence began to adopt the tactics and technology of WW1, local efforts at conciliation and the ways in which this ‘extraordinarily intense period of turbulence’ allowed all sides to ‘glimpse a sort of abyss underneath the constitutional floorboards’ whilst also setting ‘the pattern for events to come’. Short Biography:Dr Tim Wilson is the current Director of the Centre for Study of Terrorism and Political Violence at University of St Andrews.Further Reading:From Pogrom to Civil War: Tom Glennon and the Belfast IRA – Kieran Glennon The Northern IRA and the Early Years of Partition 1920-22 – Robert Lynch Political Conflict in East Ulster, 1920-22 – Christopher Magill Belfast's Unholy War: The Troubles of the 1920s– Alan F. Building better customer experiences with better forms - Tim Wilson
Tim Wilson is the CEO and Co-founder of Snapforms, an online form builder that allows healthcare providers to create, share and collect data to support healthcare workflows or healthcare marketing. From the simple to the complex, the humble form is an integral and often overlooked part of any patient's healthcare journey. In this episode, Tim shares how Snapforms has digitised the form to support digital-first healthcare services in any way, shape or size. Key takeaways: Intake forms, patient consents and initial assessments are fairly generic concepts within the healthcare industry from a digital standpoint. There's a tremendous opportunity to build out structured touchpoints so that between and after every appointment there's an ability to design your own customer experience as a healthcare professional. In a modern world, we’re increasingly interacting with clients in a digital way, and the usual points of access such as websites, online booking portals are often the start of a healthcare service experience. If a system is designed end-to-end in a seamlessly integrated, branded and professional way, it promotes a great customer experience. However, too often we see a disjointed and clunky use of systems that make it harder for a client to choose a service provider. Tim Wilson is one of the godfathers of educational podcasting. He was doing this 15 years ago. I’ve known Tim for this long and yet it’s not until recently that he has become a competitive archer. I find it fascinating when people take up new passions later on in life and it certainly is a wonderful example of the somewhat tired phrase of “lifelong learner” Tim shares some really great perspectives on goal setting around this new passion and along with his new coaching lens provides implications for everyone. … Read the rest
