Pastor With No Answers Podcast

Podcaster (Bible for Normal People), Author (Sin of Certainty, Exodus for Normal People, How the Bible works and more), bible scholar (PhD) and just a heck of a dude, Pete Enns tries to answer tons of dumb-ass theology questions from the mind of Joey Svendsen.  Some themes that come out of this one: mystery of the afterlife, the importance of the resurrection, how systematic theology is broke, The Message Bible, some of Jesus’ limitations and a different way to look at the story of Adam and Eve.  How’s that for a jam packed episode!Pete:https://twitter.com/peteennshttps://peteenns.com/https://thebiblefornormalpeople.podbean.com/Episode 90 with Pete Enns [aired June 4th 2017] https://www.buzzsprout.com/1511929/6549841Joey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee giving opportunity: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelpsSupport Us:Join us as a patron! https://www.patreon.com/pwnapodor leave a Venmo tip right @  https://venmo.com/joey-svendsenJoin the discussion:https://www.facebook.com/groups/PWNAtalkSocials:https://twitter.com/joeysvendsenhttps://www.facebook.com/PWNApodE-mail PWNAcontact@gmail.com for correspondence.Theme Song courtesy of Derek Minor:  http://www.derekminor.comOther music originally composed by Joel Hamilton and friends.https://mechanicalriver.bandcamp.com/http://embassyfreqs.com/Executive Producer of PWNApod:  Jared Svendsen

Ep. 20: What Is the Bible? with Dr. Pete Enns

Holy Heretics: Losing Religion and Finding Jesus

If you enjoyed this episode, please leave us a rating and a review 🙏Most of us who are raised evangelical are taught 3 things about the Bible: 1. that it’s the Word of God; 2. that it’s inerrant (i.e., without error); and 3. that a “plain and simple” reading of it contains all the truth humankind will ever need. But what if none of those things is true? What is the Bible then? How do we read it if not from a literal, inerrant framework? And what place is it supposed to have in our lives? We talk with biblical scholar, author, and host of The Bible for Normal People podcast, Dr. Pete Enns, about what the Bible is and isn’t and how there are other faithful frameworks for approaching it despite what we’ve been taught.Follow Pete on Instagram and Twitter (@peteenns). 103: How to Teach Kids a Responsible Reading of the Bible w/ Pete Enns

Parenting Forward

You can tell a lot about people by their reaction to the Bible. That is what makes it so interesting as a sociological phenomenon. There are secular people who are largely ignorant of the Bible. Then there is the large spectrum of ways Christians engage with the Bible, from the literal inerrant folks to the infallible and liberal interpretations. My guest today understands the varied kind of baggage that the Bible can carry for people. Pete Enns is a Bible scholar, a professor, the author of several amazing books about the Bible, and the host of the popular podcast The Bible for Normal People. I had the amazing honor of being a guest on that show back in August. In this episode, we are discussing how to teach about and discuss the Bible with our kids. Show Highlights: Pete’s personal relationship with the Bible. Whether or not the Bible is appropriate for children. How children were viewed in Bible times. Age-appropriate ways to teach the context of Bible stories. Irresponsible ways of sharing the Bible with children. What needs to change in regards to our attitude about children. How understanding that you want to give your children power changes your approach to the Bible. Why biblical literacy is important even for secular people. How to raise our kids with resilience to prepare them for those who will contradict the way they learn the Bible.
