S2 E11 - State Sportsmen's Legislation with Andy Treharne (Congressional Sportsmen Foundation) and Nephi Cole (National Shooting Sports Foundation)

Mule Deer Foundation - Talking Mule Deer Podcast

Season 2, Episode 11 - State Sportsmen’s Legislation with Andy Treharne of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation and Nephi Cole of the National Shooting Sports Foundation Steve and Jodi caught up with Andy Treharne of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation and Nephi Cole of the National Shooting Sports Foundation at the recent North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference to talk about state sportsmen’s legislation. Treharne describes what state legislative sportsmen’s caucuses are and how CSF serves a resource on issues and events through the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses and the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus. Andy explains how each caucus is different and how the organizations work proactively to engage with these legislators on a wide variety of issues. NSSF’s Cole also talks about how state legislative bodies are actively working on a variety of second amendment issues in the states during the current legislative session. Both of our guests describe how state legislative sessions can be very different than Congress, how quickly issues can move, and how to effectively work with state legislators who are typically part-time politicians. This Talking Mule Deer episode is a great resource for how chapters and members can make a difference on state sportsmen’s issues.

Bonus Episode: Getting More People Involved in the Shooting Sports – Nephi Cole

Concealed Carry Podcast - Guns | Training | Defense | CCW

In this special bonus episode, we play back the interview Riley and Jacob was able to do with Nephi Cole, Policy Advisor to Governor Matthew H. Mead of the State of Wyoming. They have been doing some amazing things to attract firearms business to their state and grow their economy. One initiative that is having a great impact on the growth of and perception of the Second Amendment in their state is by working to get more people--adults and children alike--involved in the firearms community. They have established a simple, although not easy, shooting competition called the Wyoming Top 100. And last year was the inaugural Wyoming Governor's Match, a 2-gun match that brought in shooters from across the country.
