Episode 161 - Vernon Wells

Straight To Video

We talk to Vernon Wells - Australian actor known for playing iconic 80s movie villain roles in Mad Max 2, Commando, Innerspace and Weird Science. Vernon shares his ever unpredicatable journey from growing up on his grandfather's farm with dreams of rock n roll before a totally unplanned left turn into the movie industry. He would embrace over the top roles such as the mohawked biker warrior Wez alongside Mel Gibson's Mad Max before heading to Hollywood to go toe to toe with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando and steal the show in the role of the maniacal Bennett. During our chat, Vernon is incredibly humble and shows endless love and thanks to his family, co-stars and directors who helped him along the way as he continues to work even harder in the industry to this very day. This episode is brought to you by our friends Dead Skull Coffee.https://deadskullcoffee.co.uk/discount/STVPlease visit The Straight To Video Patreon Page to find out how you can help grow this show. https://www.patreon.com/stvpod

Career Highs, Lows, And Life Changing Decisions with Special Guest Vernon Wells

Super Chat with Cat and Nakia

Vernon Wells acclaimed Australian born actor has done over 200 film and television projects. His first cinema appearance was a minor role in Felicity (1978), a low budget, erotic fantasy film. However, Wells was then fortunate to be cast as the homicidal biker "Wez", in the big budget The Road Warrior (1981) filmed around Silverton near Broken Hill in outback New South Wales, Australia. It's the role for which he is probably best known to international audiences, as Wells portrays a psychotic, post apocalyptic gang leader who relentlessly pursues hero Mel Gibson, before meeting a spectacular death at the film's finale. Hollywood beckoned for Wells, and he spoofed his mad biker role in the popular teen comedy Weird Science (1985), before taking on another villainous role as the treacherous ex-soldier "Bennett", who foolishly double crosses Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando (1985). Once more, Wells meets a dramatic end, as he is impaled against a boiler at the film's conclusion, as big Arnold remarks "Let off some steam, Bennett". Vernon takes Nakia and Cat down his lengthy journey of highs and lows in the entertainment industry.--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
