Battle of the Piney Woods: Hardwood Edition

It is a tale as old as time. Bitter rivals for almost a century, the Beauty (SFA) and the Beast (SHSU) playing for bragging rights. Who came out on top as the victors? Who do you think?? WE AXED DEM KATS.  Winning this game was vital to staying in the top 4 in the conference standing & to potentially set it up for another Regular Season Conference Championship battle depending on how the rest of the season pans out. We still need to travel down to WRJ south (Huntsville) and beat them on their own court.   The next game is on Wednesday @ Texas A&M Corpus Christi and they are just coming out of COVID protocols. They always play us hard no matter what so we need to keep this juice flowing into that matchup. #AxeEm--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/partinmealex/message

EPISODE 98: Will Crossley Sowing Seeds of Hope with the Students of The Piney Woods School

Superhero of Love Podcast

Will Crossley did amazing things with his education a The Piney Woods School. He went off to become a successful attorney and political appointee. He could have done anything with his education, gifts and experience but he was called back to his roots at Piney Woods to serve as its fifth president, the first alumnus to serve in this role. He is following in the schools founder, Laurence C. Jones' footsteps as he leads with the school's core values including LOVE.  Yes, one of the school's core values is LOVE! He is right now guiding the hearts and minds of his students from afar as they were quarantined while on spring break.  It is hard to not be inspired by Will Crossley because you can feel it in your bones when you listen to him that he truly does lead with love, and with an even deeper fervor perhaps now in the middle of this quarantine. Prepare to be inspired by this giant heart!

'Voices of a Flyway' Episode 3: The Piney Woods

'Voices of a Flyway' Podcast

Episode 3: In this episode, we climb up into the pines of Central Louisiana. We’ve seen on the coast how big industry can end up dominating an ecosystem. Here, we look at three communities embroiled in their own fights to survive. To find out what it means to partner with the big industry on your doorstep, OR, to oppose it head on.To learn more about the project, visit www.voicesofaflyway.com/explore to start exploring our 6 interactive story maps that feature more of the stories, photos, and videos of the project!Funded by an Explorer grant from National Geographic, our team - a soundscape recordist, an audio producer, and a wildlife photographer - traveled from the Louisiana coastline to the Boundary Waters of Minnesota with the 2019 spring songbird migration. We visited six at-risk ecosystems along the route to uncover:1. Why each of these delicate ecosystems is so critical to bird migration.2. The infinite ways that people living in these areas share connections to the natural world.3. What stands to be lost as these ecosystems vanish?

25. Jessica Jarvholm of Piney Woods Farm

Hey, LaGrange!

This week I interview Jessica Jarvholm, executive director for Piney Woods Farm out on West Point Rd. The property was deceptively large. It was masked from the road. It looked like just a gated house, but once you were inside there was a sprawling compound of sorts, with gardens, buildings, various structures and all sorts of animals. The interview itself was enlightening. Jessica has only been back in LaGrange for two years, despite growing up here. But in those two years she’s accomplished a LOT. The farm is booming and growing even more. She talks about her 5 year plan for the farm in the interview. She also talks about growing up in LaGrange and the pleasure of returning all these years later. It was a lot of fun to interview Jessica, so I hope that fun comes through in the interview. I’ll let you decide whether or not it did. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/appSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/HeyLaGrange/support

Murder in the Piney Woods: Jessica Louise Sadler

gone cold podcast - texas true crime

After leaving her house for a walk in the woods on the afternoon of October 19th, 2001, fifteen-year-old Jessica Sadler vanished. Though police deemed her a runaway, family and volunteers from all around came to Leverett’s Chapel Texas to aid in the search for her. Shortly after the FBI became involved, Jessica’s body was found at an illegal dump site under discarded construction materials. An eighteen-year-old senior at Jessica’s school confessed to having sex with her that day after hours of police interrogations but vehemently denied knowledge of her death.
