Shahid Buttar in the first half, Melvin is back in the second!
Joe and I had the amazing opportunity to speak with progressive leader and Medicare for All supporter Shahid Buttar right before this episode. I know I promised to record the conversation but Joe and I had a much more personal and in-depth conversation with Shahid because we decided to keep it personal and recount our discussion to you. Our discussion about nuclear power plants and weapons was not well researched. Shahid was the first real challenger to Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat in the 12th district of California in 2020. His campaign managed to win the districts wild-card primary (top 2 vote getters move on to general election regardless of party) by beating the republican in the primary race Shahid demonstrated that there is a real appetite for progressive policies like Medicare for All and a 15$ minimum wage but not enough to wake up the moderates that have been bought by the democratic machine. If your interest in exploring the dysfunction around Shahid's first campaign just google "Shahid Buttar campaign manager" and the defamatory medium piece will show up. It's our belief that the charges brought against Shahid by his former staffers were overblown and potentially fabricated because Nancy was threatened by Shahid, essentially telling his staff that they would never be able to work in democratic politics again if they didn't quit the campaign and public drag Shahid's reputation through the mud right after winning the primary. Our conversation with Mel was fun and laid back as usual. We cover racism in schools, and children's natural propensity to segregate. The Japanese aren't letting athletes support BLM at the Olympics. The NBA's playin format is pretty cool, and much much more. Jake Paul has gotta stop takin people stuff. Onlyfans is outta control. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/americandualism/message

Shahad Buttar ran against Nancy Pelosi in 2020 and is exploring a 2022 run. A constitutional attorney, hip hop artist, immigrant and social activist, Shahid is a progressive and potential member of "The Squad" who joins DOA to discuss the history of US immigration policy, and the historical xenophobia, European bias and backlash caused by this phenomenon. He also discusses how fear of immigrants relates to Trump and MAGA, how Pelosi and other corporate Democrats kowtow to the GOP, and why it's so hard for non-establishment candidates to win seats in congress.History Sources: AP Crash Course and Wild Historywww.ShahidForChange.comTwitter @ShahidForChangeWelcome to Dig on America, where we give you the dig on US history, politics, policy & pop culture & discuss how they affect social issues today. An Interview with Nancy Pelosi Challenger Shahid Buttar and a Look at the History of Fascist Movements in the U.S.
Intercepted with Jeremy Scahill
A bipartisan coalition of lawmakers led by Rep. Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick Cheney, is trying to stop Trump from withdrawing troops from Afghanistan. This week on Intercepted: As the longest continuous war in U.S. history enters its 19th year, Congressional Democrats and Republicans are joining together in an effort to keep the war going. Constitutional lawyer and activist Shahid Buttar, who is challenging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her Congressional seat in San Francisco, alleges that Pelosi’s leadership during the Trump era has amounted to enabling Trump at his worst while simultaneously working to block the potential good that could come from ending the Afghanistan war. Buttar also discusses his views on surveillance, the climate crisis, the role of large tech companies in violating human rights, and he assesses the state of the Democratic Party ahead of the November elections. In a spate of recent speeches, Donald Trump has portrayed himself as a noble warrior in the battle to protect America’s heritage. He is consistently railing against a long list of perceived enemies, including anarchists, Marxists, immigrants, while preemptively casting doubts on the validity of the 2020 election. And as he campaigns, Trump is increasingly operating — whether intentional or not — from a playbook that is eerily reminiscent of the America First movement in the United States that operated in the 1930s. These were allies of Germany’s Nazi Party, the most famous amongst them was famed pilot Charles Lindbergh. California State University historian Bradley W. Hart, author of “Hitler's American Friends: The Third Reich's Supporters in the United States,” discusses the history of the movements and figures in U.S. history who supported Hitler and the Third Reich in the years before and during World War II. Hart also discusses Hitler’s affection for Henry Ford and details the rise and fall of radical rightwing radio host Fr. Charles Coughlin whose broadcasts into tens of millions of homes built support for fascism in the U.S.See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
