***Episode Re-Broadcast***

This week we bring back a very thought provoking and inspiring episode that we felt needed to come back, especially now.

It is our honor to introduce you, once again, to an amazing Father, Husband, Keynote Speaker & Paralympian, Joe Delagrave.

Joe Delagrave, Co-Captain of Team USA Wheelchair Rugby, was a 19-year-old college football player when he became paralyzed after a freak boating accident. After his accident, Joe struggled to find identity and purpose in life. Despite all the challenges he continued to face, he shares how he found his way to get back up. (Excerpt from CAF-Challenged Athletes Foundation)

In this episode, Joe shares his inspiring story and some insight about his rehabilitation after his accident and why the process was just as much mental as it was physical.

Joe also tells us about having a victor instead of victim mentality and why inspiration can be found in what you do when you fail, compared to what you do in the moment of victory.

We also talk about his upcoming olympic journey, how he has been managing life during COVID-19, the importance of putting in the work, creating good habits and much more on this inspirational episode of The White Tiger Podcast.

We are back to our regular program today interviewing a current Captain, shifting back from our Sports Philosophy Series. My guest today is Joe Delagrave. Joe has an amazing story and we had a great conversation. Joe grew up as a 3 sport athlete and played Division II Football at Winona State. When he was 19 he suffered a tragic accident and was paralyzed. Through his struggle and rehabilitation he ended up finding wheelchair rugby. He has attained the highest level of excellence in the sport playing for the U.S. National Team for over a decade and has also been the Captain of the team for about 8 years. The big theme throughout our conversation today is Communication and Servant Leadership. We talk about how culture has always been one of the focuses for him as a Captain and how he uses communication on and especially off the court to bring about a better culture. Joe also shares the story of how he has evolved as an individual athlete and leader throughout his time on the team and being a Captain as well his invaluable advice for Captains out there today. Again, it was a really awesome conversation full of actionable steps and bits you can apply today and tomorrow as a leader so I’ll get out of the way here and please enjoy on another episode of the Captains Coach Podcast.

I am passionate about servant leadership, connecting with others, and inspiring/motivating people to find their passion and purpose intersection in both career and life. As a keynote speaker I help my audience realize that we all have a choice in not being defined by our circumstances. Most of us fall into the trap of using our circumstances as an excuse for where we are instead of reaching for our full potential.
