Bitcoin & The Decentralised Future with Michael Casey
What Bitcoin Did with Peter McCormack
“We’re going down the path of black and white, good and evil because we have a centralised approach to it that is fundamentally out of touch with what we really should be thinking about. ”— Michael CaseyLocation: RemotelyDate: Friday 23rd JulyProject: CoindeskRole: Chief Content OfficerHistorically, the control of information was held mainly by powerful entities like the church, governments, or corporations. While the dawn of the internet age has made the ability to broadcast worldwide cheap and accessible, algorithmic curation is influencing our discourse. Now, the left v right paradigm is more divisive than ever, leaving many disenfranchised with politics. A new battle is emerging between incumbent-centralisation and disruptive-decentralisation that is spreading not just through information and governance but with Bitcoin, money itself. In this interview, I talk to Coindesk’s Chief Content Officer, Michael Casey. We discuss the power of controlling information, the divisiveness of left v right politics and how in the future governance may decentralise. This episode’s sponsors:Gemini - Buy Bitcoin instantlyBlockFi - The future of Bitcoin financial servicesSportsbet.io - Online sportsbook & casino that accepts BitcoinCasa - The leading provider of Bitcoin multisig key security.Exodus - The world's leading Desktop, Mobile and Hardware crypto wallets.Ledger - State of the art Bitcoin hardware wallet-----WBD380 - Show Notes-----If you enjoy The What Bitcoin Did Podcast you can help support the show by doing the following:Become a Patron and get access to shows early or help contributeMake a tip:Bitcoin: 3FiC6w7eb3dkcaNHMAnj39ANTAkv8Ufi2SQR Codes: BitcoinIf you do send a tip then please email me so that I can say thank youSubscribe on iTunes | Spotify | Stitcher | SoundCloud | YouTube | Deezer | TuneIn | RSS FeedLeave a review on iTunesShare the show and episodes with your friends and familySubscribe to the newsletter on my websiteFollow me on Twitter Personal | Twitter Podcast | Instagram | Medium | YouTubeIf you are interested in sponsoring the show, you can read more about that here or please feel free to drop me an email to discuss options.
The Age of Cryptocurrency by Paul Vigna & Michael Casey
The Book Legion
Bitcoin became a buzzword overnight. A cyber enigma with an enthusiastic following, it pops up in headlines and fuels endless media debate. You can apparently use it to buy anything from coffee to cars, yet few people seem truly to understand what it is. This raises the question: Why should anyone care about bitcoin? In The Age of Cryptocurrency, Wall Street journalists Paul Vigna and Michael J. Casey deliver the definitive answer to this question. Cyber money is poised to launch a revolution, one that could reinvent traditional financial and social structures while bringing the world's billions of "unbanked" individuals into a new global economy. Cryptocurrency holds the promise of a financial system without a middleman, one owned by the people who use it and one safeguarded from the devastation of a 2008-type crash. But bitcoin, the most famous of the cyber monies, carries a reputation for instability, wild fluctuation, and illicit business; some fear it has the power to eliminate jobs and to upend the concept of a nation-state. It implies, above all, monumental and wide-reaching change--for better and for worse. But it is here to stay, and you ignore it at your peril.Vigna and Casey demystify cryptocurrency--its origins, its function, and what you need to know to navigate a cyber economy. The digital currency world will look very different from the paper currency world; The Age of Cryptocurrency will teach you how to be ready.Buy the book here: https://amzn.to/2SneXkp+++++Subscribe to the Podcast!▶︎ PODCAST: https://bit.ly/3qpki6YFollow us on Social Media:▶︎ YOUTUBE | http://bit.ly/2MZJ3Io▶︎ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/thebooklegion▶︎ FACEBOOK | https://facebook.com/thebooklegion▶︎ WEBSITE | https://thebooklegion.com
