This audio is from a video series uploaded to our Instagram every Friday (or Saturday) night as an alternative to watching half time analysis of whichever football game is on. From 07/08/2021 This week we are feeling the exhaustion and burn out of lockdown 6 in Victoria and a disillusioning time in football with racism and sexism seemingly all around. We, do, however have the pleasure of talking to the incredible Felicity Harley who has spearheaded the movement to reunite Sydney based staff and players with their families after long separations in 2021. We hope everyone is staying home and staying safe. ❤️ @felicityharley
Having a busy life feels like you're spinning multiple plates and eventually, it may all come crashing down. We're sold this utopia that life can be amazing if you are able to keep all this afloat and getting rid of stress is as easy as doing a yoga session. Maz Compton and Dr. Sam Hay are joined by Felicity Harley to talk about what overwhelming lifestyles can do to our bodies and our mood and how to manage our response to stress.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Author, journalist, speaker and all-round media personality Felicity Harley barely knew how prescient she was with the release of her book, Balance Is BS. It was released in April, just as its theme of overwhelm was playing out right across the globe. For many, she says, lockdown brought a sense of release from the rush of life, but for others it created more worry and work. For Felicity, this year has been a time of wrestling with her own ambition and family commitments, with husband and Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley completely consumed by the challenges in his work. She says “it’s hard to take on more at home when you’re ambitious in your career” and she speaks frankly about what that has meant to her, in this latest episode of Heart & Hustle. Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #SPAITGIRL Podcast
Welcome to the #SPAITGIRL Talk Show with Yvette Le Blowitz EP.80 - Balance & other B.S with Felicity Harley Felicity Harley has been a journalist for Australia's leading women's publications for two decades, including a nine-year stint as founding editor of Women's Health. Author of Balance & other B.S. She launched and is currently editor-at-large of whimn.com.au. She has appeared weekly on Sunrise for ten years, has hosted TV shows and events and is a speaker on her favourite topic: health and wellbeing. Felicity was named one of Australia's 100 Women of Influence for her brainchild the 'I Support Women In Sport' campaign. She lives in Sydney with her husband, Tom, and their greatest achievements, three children. In her, er, spare time, the health aficionado drinks coffee, does yoga, exercises (to stay sane) and cheers on the Sydney Swans. When Felicity Harley, founding editor of Women's Health magazine and whimn.com.au, felt really out of kilter, she started talking to other women about their overwhelm. The floodgates opened. Turns out her girlfriends, colleagues and other mums at the school gate had also been drowning in feminist guilt while trying to keep everything afloat, plagued by perfectionism, riddled with doubt, ruled by screens and hurtling towards burnout. As we juggle the roles of partner, boss, friend, mother and employee (plus a side hustle), balance has never been more crucial. We're obsessed with 'wellness', yet women's mental health and wellbeing are in decline. Using her own experiences, research and insights from leading Australian experts in health, sociology and feminism, and wisdom from smart women like Tanya Plibersek and Fifi Box, Felicity calls out the crap in cult wellness. In her warm and inspiring way, she shows how you can cut through the B.S. to find clarity in the chaos, offload some of your mental load, and feel truly empowered in the middle of your wonderfully messy life. In this episode 80 our Podcast Guest Felcity Harley shares: - her personal story - what inspired her to write Balance & other B.S - what her self care rituals are as a busy working Mum - more about what she has learnt from interviewing so many incredible women about Balance, health and wellness over the many years - travelling solo the benefits of it - her favourite spa and wellness experience - mental health, burn out, exhustion - health and wellness - social media and the pressures we all face thanks to consuming it - how we can apply Courage to our own lives - stepping outside out comfort zone Plus we talk about so much more of course Grab a copy of Felicity HarleyBalance & other B.S from Amazon.com or if you live in Australia head to Big W to grab a copy of your nearest book store. ----- Hashtag #spaitgirlbookclub #spaitgirl to share the LOVE Now that you have been given the low down on this week's incredible podcast guest it is TIME to....... Can women really have it all? with Felicity Harley
Powerful Stories with Tory Archbold
In the past, I’ve been besties with overwhelm. You probably have too. Reaching to check emails the minute your eyes open, madly trying to get everything done at work before its school pick up time, worrying about cleaning the house and filling the fridge and booking in a wax and oh God, trying to find ten minutes just to return a friend’s call. Once I was so overwhelmed by running a business and being a single mum that I booked into a health retreat in Thailand - and had a panic attack on the plane! Overwhelm is something Felicity Harley also knows inside out. The founding editor of Women’s Health magazine and a media star for 20 years, she’s also a hands-on mum of three (with her Sydney Swans CEO husband Tom Harley) and was so intrigued by the epidemic of modern women looking for perfection, and finding burnout, that she wrote a book about it. On the latest Powerful Stories podcast, the fabulous Felicity is honest about her spotlight life - revealing what her husband did after a big day out with the kids and how she felt about it - and why she thinks the wellness movement is making things worse for women. We talked about how she runs her own life, strategises to beat overwhelm - the third made me laugh - and the ‘U’ of happiness (you’ll love working out where you sit). The big question: Can we really have it all? “In one word, no. I don’t think we can,” Felicity said. “We can’t have it all at the same time. It’s about choosing what you want right in that moment and what’s important to you.” Join me and Felicity for the new Powerful Stories episode, launching today on Nova. The skincare peel pads that get her TV and red carpet ready...Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I'm your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart. If you're new here or you just need a recap: Each episode, I sit down with a guest and ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they'd take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too.Maybe it's the first beauty product they ever bought, the one that gives them their signature look, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today.Today, my guest is Felicity Harley, journalist, award-winning launch editor of both Women's Health Australia and WHIMN and author of the brilliant 2020 book, Balance and other BS: How To Hold It Together When You're Doing It All. Oh, and you may hear references to her husband Tom when we talk about balance in relationships, yes that is Tom Harley, former AFL player and current Sydney Swans CEO - and the story of how they met which she shares is great too.Felicity's brilliant book Balance and Other BS is available to buy and read now: A note: a few things have already changed since this conversation; both WHIMN and Women's Health Australia have now unfortunately closed - we do touch a little on the state and future of the magazine industry given Felicity's career has spanned both print and digital. If you enjoy this episode, please rate and write a review on Apple Podcasts or subscribe on Spotify if you haven't already. Ep #138 - Balance and other BS with Felicity Harley
Happy Mama Movement with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
Balance is all BS, right? We're mamas and women, we've chased that dream and realised it was a pipe dream. Right? It seems many of us are still not 100% clear on this. Even though we've heard the stats and know the reality, many of us are still believing that if we worked harder, got more organised, woke earlier or finally started meditating, we might find that balance we were promised. Enter Felicity Harley, mama to three and another former 'superwoman'. Felicity has dived deep into our belief system of why we think Balance is possible, and what we do to ourselves in our pursuit of it. And in this interview, she shares her own insights and experience, as well as the answers she has discovered along the way into what it really means to be a happy mama and woman in this time of our life. 'Balance and other BS' by Felicity Harley is published by Allen & Unwin.
Modern life for women is so confusing. We finally have space and support to step into being able to ‘do (more of) it all’ yet doing it all seems to come with a huge cost. Cecelia and Nat chat with editor and author Felicity Harley about why we need to throw the idea of balance out the window and why letting go of the expectations really is the key to feeling empowered.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
