042 - The Message Art of Poetry (Interview With African-American Artist Gary Jackson)

Authors and Airwaves

This episode is about survival. It's about learning who we are and acknowledging the struggles of others. I had an amazing time recording this interview, even if the internet connection was a little wonky! Artist, author and poet Gary Jackson had a stroke when he was 10 years old. He spent much of his life recovering from that. However, in 2013 he was then diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a long-term neuromuscular disease that leads to varying degrees of skeletal muscle weakness, through a series of painful procedures that included being shocked with electricity through needles inserted around his eye socket. Through all this, he has still be able to create his own Aba Daba Do core fitness tool while having been Life Certified as a Health and Fitness Life Coach. He also has an A.S. in Electronics from The DeVry Institute of Technology. We are here to let you know that you can overcome.
