Roger Cross co-stars opposite Serinda Swan on the hit CBC drama Coroner. Premiering Aug. 5 on The CW, the series joins a select group of Canadian dramas ever to crack a U.S. network lineup. Raised in Vancouver, the Jamaican-born actor planned on a commercial airline career before roles on The X-Files and 24 changed his flight path. Listen as he tells of acting tips from Billy Dee Williams, meeting Muhammad Ali and 'tooning up as Green Lantern. Cross also shares his passionate views on racial injustice and how he was once told he was not "black enough" for a certain part.

Roger Cross is no stranger to science fiction. This acting veteran has flexed his chops with Vin Diesel, he's taken his talents to the DC Universe, and he's performed alongside Keanu Reeves. Before Roger Cross was an actor, he was a pilot – and a lot of what he learned in the cockpit informs the nuanced work he does today. Roger’s filmography is vast and includes Dark Matter, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Orphan Black, and the beloved Vancouver-shot time travel procedural Continuum, on which he played Travis Verta, a Liber8 time travelling terrorist who was really, really mean. More recently, Roger’s been inhabiting a very different type of role: that of Donovan “Mac” McAvoy on CBC’s Coroner, which is in the midst of airing its second season and for which Roger was recently nominated for a Canadian Screen Award. Coroner follows the professional and personal exploits of Dr. Jenny Cooper (Serinda Swan), an ER doctor turned coroner whose husband recently died, leaving her a single mom with a mountain of debt, PTSD, an ex-soldier lover who lives in a tree house, and a new partner in the form of Roger’s Mac. In this joyful and contemplative episode, Roger talks about the paradigm-shifting advice he received early in his career from Billy Dee Williams, what is was like to pick his son up from grade one while dressed as Travis Verta, growing up with immigrant parents, and what it means to him to play a detective on a Coroner – and the role that art can play in making people confront their privilege. We've all enjoyed Travis Verta on Continuum, but Roger Cross is also beloved by fans of Arrow, Motive, 24, and a whole slew of other shows, Canadian and American. Roger shares some great stories in this interview including one time he almost died early in his career and why his character in Arrow didn't show up much.
