Kristin was born in New Jersey, both her parents are New Yorkers. She then moved to Southern California at the age of seven. As a child growing up Kristin watched her father build a life for himself and his family from nothing. This started from the very foundation and took itself all the way up to the multimillion-dollar living in the exclusive gated community of Hidden Hills before he lost it all.

This gave Kristin the drive and the necessity to want to create financial independence of her own. The arrival of her son added more fuel to the fire and Kristin grew her home-based business from small and sputtering to a multiple six-figure sensation working in the office 3 days a week and has done it all while working from home, with a laptop and an amazing talk she used to generate a rush of visibility, leads, cash and clients.

Part One of ‘How to Take Your Event and Profit Online with Guest Kristin Thompson’

It's important to take time to eat, breathe, and re-center yourself in the middle of the day. Have an end time, a time when you wrap up. Then you can then go connect with your spouse, your partner, your kids or yourself.

Divide your time into blocks. Put your family time and profit-producing activities into your calendar first. Make sure that you're putting your energy into the places that are going to grow your business the fastest.

Find time to connect with people to find, book, and deliver opportunities. These are things like speaking classes, making offers, talking to prospective clients, or podcast interviews.

All of that stuff needs to be laid into the calendar so you can set your priority. If you're reading this right now, it's also a form of connection. Because this content serves you.

If you want to improve your existing business or have the desire to start your own business, but your fear of speaking is getting in the way, take a look at your gifts as a good starting point. Start in your lane of expertise so you can build your unique brand personnel.

You don't want to sound exactly the same as similar speakers out there. There must be something about your personality, style, and vibe that sets you apart from them. Your differentiator is your content, your style, what you include, what you exclude, pricing, all of that can help you stand out.

Consider collaborating with different people. Look for opportunities to be interviewed on other people's pages, podcasts or groups. You can share your gifts on all of those platforms. Grow your Facebook group. Lead your master class there.

Some people are very soft and spiritual. Some are a little nerdy and like intellectualizing things. The more you can lean into your natural personality, the more you're going to pop out of the sea of sameness.

Don't be afraid if you're a little different. Own that and claim that as a way to differentiate yourself visually in the marketplace. So you continue to serve, educate and empower others. 

Part Two of ‘How to Take Your Event and Profit Online with Guest Kristin Thompson’

The key thing is to figure out what is your signature system. Use your expertise so you can help others get all the way up over the mountain to the other side. With the right strategies, you can craft your talk in a way that's interactive and entertaining. Moreover, avoid switching topics because that's not a very good analogy.

It's always important, no matter what's going on, to be sensitive to the broader market. Anything you deliver should be with the spirit of service. You should only sell to people who really need what you have to offer. That should be the default values that you do business with.

Don't stop. There are many people in need right now. Businesses stay invested in things that make sense. Make offers to people who need you most. Because they do need you.

Especially those of you who can help people build businesses to work from home. There are many topics that are important right now. Just do it with the spirit of service.

Hopefully, this fog will get clear soon. It's going to lift at some point in time. We're not going to be in this state forever. I believe staying grounded and going forward like a locomotive. Keep your long game in mind. The end results. That is how you are going to survive.

She used speaking as her biz builder taking her income from 30k - 175K part time in her first year. Her one-hour talks generated 5k, 50k even 100K. Kristin's journey originally began in media sales helping local businesses.  However, when she decided to have a family it was time to do something different that would provide greater flexibility.  Around this same time, she saw an ad for a personal development company which became a stepping stone into the speaking arena.   In 2008/2009 she accumulated a lot of medical bills around the same time as her husband was laid off.  Needless to say, this caused a bit of a financial crunch.  Often when your back is against the wall, you will create the method that will get you out of a situation.  Soon after this, she spoke at a networking group with 40 people in attendance.  She sold a $97 product to 30 people in the room.  Thus her speaking business was born. When you decide to create a product you must put it out there.  It simply needs to be good enough, and definitely not perfect.  When we focus on perfection, we end up never releasing it as there will always be something to improve upon.   As you build your brand you want to focus on being around people that "Get You".  This means knowing who your ideal clients are and who they are not.  There will be groups to speak in front of that are the ideal fit, and there will be others which will not. A great way to begin your speaking career is with networking groups.  Your goal is to speak to them so you can connect with everyone in the room instead of speaking to a few people that are at a table.  This means your goal is to find groups where you can speak instead of attending on a weekly basis.  To grow your business you want to expose your message to as many people as possible.  This is often the one thing that causes businesses to fail.  If only a small amount of people know who you are, then your revenues will be small as a result. Each networking group is different, as each group you speak in front of will be different.  As a result of this, you will want to tailor your talk to fit that particular audience.  A mistake that many individuals make is using a one size fits all presentation.  You want people to feel special, and the best way to do that is to customize your presentation for them. Additionally, you will want your talks to add value to the room.  You want to engage with your audience, create partipitation so they are engaged with what you are saying.   Regardless if you are selling something with your presentation, you will want to utilize the opportunity to build your list.  Often people will not buy on the first point of contact, however, if you follow up with them, they may utilize your services at a later date and time. A great way to get more speaking engagements from groups is to become a resource for them.  Usually, groups are looking for additional speakers, so the more people you send their way, the more likely they will refer you to other groups. If you've taken a film studies course in the last couple decades, you likely came across Film Art on the required book purchases. Chances are you first learned how to investigate the structure of a film (narrative, editing, mise-en-scene, sound, etc) before learning how to recognize ideology, or apply psychoanalytic theories. Wherever one's interest lie in looking at cinema, the work by film scholar Kristin Thompson over the last four decades has provided intensive groundwork into looking at Hollywood cinema's most intuitive principles and beyond. Kristin sits down to traces her entrance into academic film studies and developing a method for understanding form as adapted from Russian theories, the history of classical structure as developed by Hollywood and its legacy both abroad in the silent era and continuing into even today's so-called "VFX-driven" movies, and her work on The Lord of the Rings franchise and its game-changing success in the new century.
