The Manchester United Protests, and the Super League Crisis, One Year On - with Matt Ford

The Assistant Professor of Football

For this first episode, I am talking to Matt Ford. Matt is from Manchester, an active United supporter, longtime critical fan journalist, and a professional football journalist by day as well, for the English speaking public broadcasting service of Germany. He now lives in Germany too. Matt gives us the inside scoop about the protests among Manchester United fans against that club’s owners, particularly the events of May 2nd 2021 that led to the league game against Liverpool being canceled just in the wake of the proposal for the European Super League. A lot of important dynamics intersect here: super league vs league pyramid, ownership systems vs. member owned clubs, soccer clubs as global brands vs. community assets etc., and we try to cover them all to some extent.I would enjoy your comments and questions via The Assistant Professor of Football on twitter.  Also: I would like to keep this space free of ads and paywalls. If you enjoy this podcast and think that what I do fills a gap in soccer coverage that others would be interested in as well, pleaseRecommend The Assistant Professor of Football. Spreading the word, through word of mouth, truly does help. If you could leave some rating stars at the podcast platform of your choice, that would be particularly helpful. There are so many sports podcasts out there, and only ratings make this project visible; only then can people who look for a different kind of take on European soccer actually find me.HELPFUL LINKS for this episode:United We Stand (Fanzine)MUST, Manchester United Supporters TrustClip from Sky’s coverage of the protest, with the Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville quotes from the introThe English FSA (Football Supporters Association) is a great resource to dig deeper, and played a role in the “Fan-led Review” of football conducted after the Super League proposal. Alt Right Reservoir Dogs feat. Matt Ford

Fever Dreams

On the latest episode of Fever Dreams, host Will Sommer and guest host Asawin Suebsaeng–returning to the podcast he helped launch– talk about the “little people just riding around the miasma of MAGA-ism”. One of those people is Ray Epps, whose life has been turned upside down by a Jan. 6 conspiracy theory and who's had to go on the run. But the big guys have problems, too. The hosts discuss Trump's reasons for running again in 2024—not least among them, his belief that it's harder to prosecutors to go after him if he's in the Oval Office. And Matt Ford, a writer with the New Republic, delves into the nitty gritty of how exactly we got to where we are as a country with an aggressively rightwing Supreme Court Hosted on Acast. Episode 77: Miles Between Us (Matt Ford, Solly, Matt LaForge)

Enterprise Hardcore Podcast

It took 77 episodes, but we have finally ventured up to the great white north. Miles Between Us was a band from Ottawa that I had the pleasure of working with on my record label over 20 years ago. For this discussion, I was joined by Matt Ford, Matt LaForge, and Adam aka Solly. Everything from the demo to the full length was discussed in this deep dive. We also talked about playing early shows with bands like Count Me Out, No Warning, and American Nightmare. We talk about how they ended up releasing their full length through Think Fast records, a label that became pretty well known in hardcore around that time. This is one of the funniest interviews I've done in a while, with plenty of funny stories mixed into the interview.https://www.patreon.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://www.instagram.com/enterprisehardcorepodcast https://www.facebook.com/EnterpriseHardcorePodcast https://mobile.twitter.com/podcasthardcore--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/enterprise-hardcore-podcast/support

HWOM with Matt Ford. Male vulnerability and displacement.

Henry westons old mate the podcast

Stu and Phil are joined by Matt to discuss male vulnerability. Having spent most of his working life living abroad a looming lockdown in Prague had Matt de-worming his dog and driving through Europe in a race to beat closing borders.  On returning to the UK Matt faced the prospect of having to live in friends spare rooms and the worries that come with this. Lockdown took its toll on Matt's mental health in a way it did with many people . Thankfully Matt reached out when he realised he was struggling and put processes in place to regain control of his situation. Throughout the chat both Matt and Phil offer wonderful insights into mind frames and processes to combat negative thoughts. Stu poses some questions with addiction recovery in mind and the podcast ends with a look at how simplifying life can ultimately allow you to value what is most important.links:https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/teresas-walk-all-over-cancer-giving-page-24-1 https://www.buymeacoffee.com/HWOM
