Dan Peterson Talks Religion, Psychedelics, and the Law
Psychedelica Lex Episode 2021-042 Dan Peterson, Esq. Moderated Panel Discussion of Religion, Psychedelics, and the Law Part 1 of 1 ____________________________________________________ Author and host, Gary Michael Smith, Esq., is a decades-experienced, AV rated, attorney, American Arbitration Association panelist, founding director of the Arizona Cannabis Bar Association, board member of the Arizona Cannabis Chamber of Commerce, and general counsel to the nation's oldest federally recognized, 501C3, multi-racial peyote church. Psychedelica Lex is the first book to offer a comprehensive survey of the laws and regulations governing psychedelic substances. ABOUT THE PSYCHEDELICA LEX PODCAST AND CHANNEL President Nixon's enactment of the Controlled Substances Act in 1970 banished most psychedelics to Schedule I, making psychedelics for most purpose illegal. However, as the Congressional Record reveals, psychedelics never got a fair trial and little scientific evidence, if any, was considered by lawmakers. Prohibition was more about politics than public health. Yet, historical record, anecdotal evidence, and scientific studies all suggest that prohibition was an unnecessary and harmful overreaction and that many benefits may be derived from psychedelics. Psychedelica Lex puts the question of psychedelics on trial. Hosted by a veteran litigation attorney, each episode will explore psychedelics from different perspectives. As we explore the evidence together, you - the audience - will serve as jurors. Together we will examine every facet. Applying the rigors of cross examination and the Socratic method, we will seek an objective truth. ____________________________________________________________ The growth, trafficking, sale, possession, or consumption of psychedelics may be a felony punishable by imprisonment, fines, forfeiture of property, or any combination thereof. 2021-06-03 Religion Today - Prof. Dan Peterson on the Interpreter Foundation's the Witnesses film
The Interpreter Foundation's new film "Witnesses" is now playing in over 350 movie theaters in the United States. Witnesses is about the original three witnesses, Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer and Martin Harris. In this episode of Religion Today, host Martin Tanner explains how this film is an uplifting, yet complete film, including trials and doubts of the witnesses. It portrays Oliver, David and Martin as true believers, but also as people with human frailties. All three left the Church. Two returned. None ever denied they saw an angel and the golden plates. Until their dying day, they affirmed they had truly seen an angel and had actually seen the plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated. Martin Tanner suggests all who may be interested see the Witnesses film. (Find theaters and show times online)See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
