63: Christina Aguilera - "Stripped"

Right Back At Ya!

Ladies, move! Gentlemen, move! Non-binary friends, move! It's about time for our arrival. Your favourite 2000s pop explorers Joel and David are back with a celebration of Christina Aguilera's iconic "Stripped" album era, which turns 20 this year!  It was truly a pop culture reset when our "Caggie Aggie" dropped 'Dirrty' featuring Redman. The gritty R&B and hip-hop banger remains an immediate floor-filler to this very day and a true staple of Xtina's live shows. What followed was the boldest and most influential work of her career thus far, a body of work earning multiple Grammy-nominations, spawning five hit singles and over 10 million copies sold worldwide.   Your RBAY! boys are celebrating the hits - 'Dirrty', 'Beautiful', 'Fighter', 'Can't Hold Us Down' feat. Lil Kim, and 'The Voice Within' - as well as their favourite album tracks. They also reminisce on Xtina's major career highlights in this time, including her "Stripped" world tour, hosting the MTV EMAs, 'going viral' (way before that was a thing) with Madonna, Britney and Missy Elliott with that MTV VMAs performance! If you've just seen our "Caggie" at her summer 2022 concert dates or her headlining Brighton Pride set, this is the perfect nostalgic episode for Fighters and pop fans. Ha, HA! CHRISTINA AGUILERA (with Evan Ross Katz)

Pop Pantheon

Writer and podcaster Evan Ross Katz joins DJ Louie for a wide-ranging discussion about TRL-icon-turned-pop-iconoclast, Christina Aguilera. First, Louie and Evan discuss the teen pop boom of the late '90s and early '00s, how it presented young stars as both wholesome and over-sexualized, and the factory-style, scientifically-perfect-if-personality-less music that defined the era. They then cover Christina's emergence on The Mickey Mouse Club as the "little girl with the big voice", her breakthrough singing the Mulan theme song "Reflection", how Britney Spears' explosion helped shape her first album, 1999's Christina Aguilera, how the massive success of that record both launched Christina to superstardom and put her in an uncomfortable box that obscured her unique talents, how she re-wrote the script with her iconic sophomore album, 2002's Stripped, her penitent for massive sonic and visual reinventions on subsequent albums like 2006's Back to Basics and 2010's Bionic, the latter of which helped usher the word "flop" into common parlance and also recast Christina as a underdog and gay icon, and how her singular career choices and trajectory has influenced recent pop stars and is deserving of a modern reassessment. Finally, Louie and Evan rank Christina Aguilera in the Pop Pantheon. LA Pop Pantheon Girlies! Get Tix to Louie's New Queer Pop Party, Gorgeous Gorgeous, on 4/22 at Resident in DTLA! Christina Aguilera

MTV’s Behind the Music

A former Mouseketeer turned pop diva, Christina Aguilera has come a long way from The Mickey Mouse Club to living her dream of balancing stardom, motherhood, and love. Although she came from a troubled childhood, Christina took control of her life through music and became the definition of pop perfection with the hit “Genie in a Bottle” in 1999. In the early 2000s, she found herself in the middle of a dramatic public feud with Britney Spears and Eminem. Christina was overworked and faced depression, but channeled it into her album “Stripped” with songs such as “Dirrty”, “Fighter”, and “I’m Okay”. Christina continued to bring her raw emotional side through to her fans with the hit “Beautiful” in 2002. She continued to express herself without limits and motivate female empowerment with the relaunch of her career in the 2010s with the album "Not Myself Tonight". Christina’s career continues to be in her hands, and there are still many chapters for her to write. Watch Behind the Music now on Paramount+. 71 From managing Christina Aguilera to creating the marketing agency that powers Reebok and Tiffany Co with Allison Statter, Founder of Blended Strategy Group

They Get It

Allison Statter has such a cool story. In this episode, you'll hear about her upbringing and her experience joining the family business. My favorite part of her story is hearing about her not taking the easy road. It was important to Allison for her to find her niche and carve her own path. Not only did she find a lane that she excelled in, she built an entire business around it. In a world that is as competitive as the marketing agency world, she and her team have landed such amazing brands and talent, which is a testament to Allison's understanding of the space. 52: Christina Aguilera Part 1 - Debut album, 'Reflection' to 'Lady Marmalade'

Right Back At Ya!

Fighters, rise up because we are diving into Christina Aguilera's epic debut album era. Off the back of her hugely-deserved 2021 People's Choice Music Icon Award, it's about time this 2000s pop music podcast dived into Xtina's catalogue. In this first part of our Christina Aguilera journey, Joel and David celebrate the smash debut album "Christina Aguilera", which spawned the massive hits 'Genie In A Bottle', 'Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)', 'What A Girl Wants' and 'I Turn To You'.  We trace one of our generation's most influential vocalist's journey from the Mickey Mouse Club (with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake) through to 'Reflection', on Disney's Mulan soundtrack, all the way up to 2001's Grammy-winning global smash 'Lady Marmalade' with fellow divas P!nk, Lil Kim and Mya.  Of course, your Right Back At Ya! boys had to also touch on Christina's hugely successful Spanish language album "Mi Reflejo", her Holiday album "My Kind of Christmas", and the cheekily released album of demos from her teens "Just Be Free". We're here to give whatever pop fans want, whatever pop fans need.  *** Note: Since recording and completing the episode, The Clapham Grand event the Right Back At Ya! boys were due to appear at on 17 December 2021 has been cancelled. Big love to everyone at The Clapham Grand team, stay safe, and we look forward to partying with everyone soon.  Follow Right Back At Ya! https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/ https://twitter.com/rightbackpod https://www.facebook.com/rightbackpod Check out our Spotify playlists https://open.spotify.com/user/1c3ks5jdh2x4j7jdg1o0aglwg Follow Joel https://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/ https://twitter.com/DR_JoelB Follow David https://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/ https://twitter.com/lovelimmy Email us rightbackpod@gmail.com
