We review Hardcore Henry, the action extravaganza that asks us to literally see the world through the eyes of our protagonist as he murders every obstacle between him and the next cutscene... er, plot point. BONUS CONTENT - here's a link to the original short that served as proof of concept for the film: Biting Elbows - 'Bad Motherf***er' Official Music Video (explicit lyrics) CONTENT WARNING: amnesia, human experimentation, extremely stylish violence, unhealthy marriages, mild language. Featuring the voices of Marc Athanas, Wayne Bressette, and Nick Mohr, with special gest Chris Niejadlik. Our theme music was composed by Jack Feerick, and performed and realized by Sam Feerick.
A hard R, action flick full of drug use, nudity, mayhem, nonstop brutal over the top violence, language and early 2000's parkour - Hardcore Henry isn't the first action film to utilize those, but it is the first feature length film shoot the entire film in first person . Does the gimmick lose it's thrill or has Illya Naishuller reinvented the action movie genre with a breath of fresh air? On this week's episode of Rotten Reviews we're taking a look at Hardcore Henry - coming in at a 52% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 54% audience rating.

EP 44 | Ilya Naishuller, Director ('Nobody', 'Hardcore Henry')
What a treat to speak with Ilya Naishuller, a Russian filmmaker whose credits include HARDCORE HENRY and NOBODY (starring Bob Odenkirk as a kick-ass action star). In today’s conversation, Ilya and I discuss a wide range of topics: how directing a music video that went viral led him to receive a fully-financed offer to make his first feature film; how that film became Hardcore Henry, an indie videogame-like film experience shot as a first-shooter for $ 2 MILLION; a deep-dive discussion on Ilya’s new movie Nobody—from the 2-year training Bob Odenkirk went through to physically prepare for the role, to working with 87Eleven and directing the iconic bus fight in the film. Justin and Jared review the fast paced action in Hardcore Henry, now streaming on Netflix. Filmed entirely in a video game-esque first person, Hardcore Henry (originally released in 2015) tackles the story of a man searching to save his wife. In this episode our two hosts seek to recap some of the most explosive scenes, question what video game characters they would be, and determine how important story is to films. Feel free to reach out with your opinions or ideas through Facebook, Twitter, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or go directly to obopcast.com. Credit to Ghostrifter for the theme music.
