042: It's Okay to Want to Quit, Just Don't with Arwen Becker (Repost)

She Handled It! with Arwen Becker

When life is collapsing in on you, yet your personal and professional lives are intertwined, how do you persevere? After 17 years of working together, Arwen and her husband made the decision to sell half of their business and she was going to work for someone else. Arwen saw the sale as an opportunity to lift a huge financial burden off her shoulders, but the impact on their lives, their kids, and their employees was simply too much for her to bear. At the last possible minute, she backed out of the sale, since she believed that decision would end their marriage. This decision to not quit, led Arwen to her first ever panic attack in September 2016, because she didn’t know how to return to a company and life she believed was irreparably broken. This was just the start to the hardest two years of her life. Today, Arwen is sharing the story of how she found freedom in living her authentic life amidst the pain and turmoil that choice seemed to cause. How Arwen and her husband transitioned their company and roles, worked through their financial devastation, saved their marriage and came out on the other side of these challenges with a flourishing business and a dream life, even in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Arwen wants to help you learn from her prideful mistakes and heartbreak. To help usher in your breakthrough -- one that is only found on the other side of not quitting. 038: When Life Hits Like a Riptide with Arwen Becker

She Handled It! with Arwen Becker

A fun day almost ended in tragedy when Arwen Becker’s teenage boys were pulled out to sea by a riptide on a deserted beach in Costa Rica. When her husband Randy noticed that they had drifted too far from the shore, he started furiously waiving for them to come in, completely unaware of the level of danger they were in. For a brief moment, Easton’s screams for help cut through the deafening waves and Randy knew something was terribly wrong. In an instant, he sprinted into the water and swam as fast he could to get out to them.  Even though Arwen’s sons are decent swimmers, neither of them had ever dealt with a rip current like this before. Her oldest son Ashton was able to stay with his younger brother and help keep his head above the water until Randy arrived. After many anxious minutes, the whole family was safely back on the shore with the help of two strangers who also jumped in to help. In this episode, Arwen shares the story of the family vacation that nearly ended in tragedy, and the lessons that the whole family learned that day. She also reminds us that life is full of risks, but our lives are meant to be lived and enjoyed. Pearls of Wisdom Life is full of risks, but we still have to live our lives and enjoy the time we have. Don’t let guilt prevent you from moving forward. Beating ourselves up doesn’t solve anything. The value in getting life and term insurance while you’re young and healthy. She Handled It and So Can You! - Arwen Becker #5128

Financial Survival Network

Arwen was being interviewed for a video and she talked about her mom. Money was tight and her mother was confronted with a challenge. And she handled it! Arwen was inspired to write the book and tell her mother’s and her own story.  The take away, Arwen wants women to be inspired. There’s a large portion of the female population that hasn’t been educated to make correct decisions. And they often find themselves alone, either through divorce or death. And women often avoid the subject altogether. They need help to solve the money riddle in a way that the average financial book falls short of doing.  Financial Adviser, National Speaker, and Podcast Host Arwen Becker shares her raw trials and triumphs, helping the reader grasp that, after a very rough start and many mistakes, "She Handled It, So Can You!"

034: Experiencing Joy is Worth the Risk with Arwen Becker

She Handled It! with Arwen Becker

At 10 years old, Arwen Becker was thrilled to have the very rare opportunity to jump off the high dive after swimming practice. As she waited on the top step for her teammate to jump, she lost her footing and fell onto the concrete 15 feet below. The entire swimming class screamed in horror at her crumpled up body lying on the floor. In the middle of the chaos, Arwen was amazed to discover that she didn’t break her leg or hit her head. However, she quickly realized by what she saw, that her wrist was obliterated. As paramedics prepped her for the ride to the hospital in an ambulance, she wondered if the joy of the moment was worth the risk to her athletic career. Today, Arwen shares some of the lessons she learned from this experience and reminds us about the inherent risks in everything that gives us joy in life - and all the ways life can prove that the risks are certainly worth it. Overcomer Playlist Recommendation Sia - Chandelier Pearls of Wisdom Vulnerability is never a bad thing. If you always play it safe, you’ll never feel the exhilaration of accomplishing something you’re scared of. Throw your ego out the window and experience what it’s like to be playful. Everyone needs an end of life plan, no matter who you are or what you do. 030: Miracle within Life and Death with Arwen Becker

She Handled It! with Arwen Becker

One Sunday morning while travelling to church, Arwen’s path crossed with another that desperately needed help. She noticed a tiny animal in the middle of the road and immediately knew what she had to do. With her love for animals, a degree in zoology and several years of experience at a wildlife rehabilitation center, Burg - the burgundy colored baby rock dove - couldn’t have been in better hands. Arwen cared for Burg like he was a family pet until he was healthy enough to be on his own. He spent most of his days on the deck of their backyard without venturing very far, and he always returned at night, until one day he didn’t. To her shock, Burg proceeded to return with 30 of his closest dove pals that next winter. This went on for a couple years, leaving for months at a time, until the day Burg somehow found his way back to Arwen when he was very sick and on the verge of death. In today’s episode, Arwen talks about what she gained from her experience with Burg, and several valuable lessons about helping those who are in need, the circle of life and the importance of believing in miracles - both big and small. Overcomer Playlist Recommendation For King & Country - Burn The Ships Howie Day - Collide Pearls of Wisdom Why we all need to believe in miracles. 026: Autism and Insomnia - To the Edge and Back with Arwen Becker

She Handled It! with Arwen Becker

When Arwen realized she wasn’t able to fix her son’s ADD and Autism diagnosis with proper food, therapy, effort, time, pity or accommodations she felt like a failure. Realizing she had no real control over the situation, she broke down and soon found herself suffering from severe, debilitating insomnia. As months passed by, the situation only worsened as she was terrified to drive and had doubts that she’d ever feel normal again. As she spun out of control and had to seek medical intervention for her own health issues, things began to improve for her son. As much as she resisted medication as a way to help his issues, she found that would be the biggest positive impact on his success and pulling her out of the depths of her insomnia. Today, Arwen shares the story of how she worked through her son’s challenges to help him thrive in spite of his diagnosis - and find healing for herself along the way. Overcomer Playlist Recommendation Josh Groban - When You Say You Love Me Pearls of Wisdom Embrace the suck and the challenges that come with those moments. Pandemic Will ‘Take Our Women 10 Years Back’ in the Workplace - Arwen Becker #4966

Financial Survival Network

"Around the world, working women are facing brutally hard choices about whether to stay home with their children, if they haven’t already been laid off," says Laetitia Vancon New York Times. As if working mothers did not have enough to worry about, experts are now sounding the alarm that progress toward gender equality may be the latest in a long list of casualties of the coronavirus pandemic. Substantial research has shown that most professional gender gaps are in fact motherhood gaps: women without children are much closer to parity with men when it comes to salaries and promotions, but mothers pay a large career penalty. Women tend to take on more of the burdens of caring for children and the family. To go to work, they need someone to help with that care. But fathers have been slow to change their behavior. And without subsidies, private child care can be prohibitively expensive. Workplaces already tend to penalize women who choose to work fewer hours or need more flexibility, and that, too, is proving to be exacerbated in the pandemic. “The bottom line is that based on decades of research we know that there was one institution that was effective at limiting gender inequality and encouraging women’s participation in the workplace, and it was early childhood education,” said Claudia Olivetti, an economist at Dartmouth College. Substantial research has shown that women without children are much closer to parity with men when it comes to salaries and promotions, but mothers pay a large career penalty.Adriano Machado/Reuters Now, the pandemic — and its hobbling of schools and child-care providers — is taking that away, too, piling pressure on working mothers, like me. Around the world, working women are facing brutally hard choices about whether to stay home if they haven’t already been laid off. And the effect may be particularly severe in countries like the United States, where the pandemic is compounding inequalities that women already faced as a result of the lack of guaranteed paid maternity leave and affordable child care.

001: Welcome to She Handled It with Arwen Becker

She Handled It! with Arwen Becker

Welcome to the She Handled It with Arwen Becker. In this podcast, Arwen highlights women from different areas of study, ethnicities and backgrounds, who openly share with her one of the worst moments in their life. They go back to that rock-bottom moment, how it was overcome, what she learned and how beauty was brought forth from those ashes. When others crumbled, she persisted. Women are experts at handling adversity and severe challenges. When her back is against the wall and all reasonable options have been exhausted, all that is left is her sheer will to pull herself out of bed one more time and to charge forth like Joan of Arc. She is a victorious, strong, determined woman who overcame what others believed would be her undoing. Arwen Becker is a National Speaker, Author, Entrepreneur, Wife, Mother and Athlete, but in the valleys of her life, she battled many life-altering challenges ranging from; growing up in an alcohol and pornography laden home, abandonment, financial devastation as a child and adult, betrayal, imposter syndrome (just to name a few). She found freedom in vulnerability when she began to share her hurt, short-comings and failures, and desires other women to experience the same. Talking through these truly tough moments, Arwen knows you will find hope in the inspirational and empowering stories of these women. You are not alone, and your brokenness is a gift to you, and more importantly, others you meet in the future. She Handled It, So Can You!
