1255: What is the risk in the Red Sea? Gregory R Copley, Defense and Foreign Affairs

The John Batchelor Show

Image:  Abyssinian warriors going to the northern front during the Second Italo-Ethiopian War Gregory R Copley: Defense and Foreign Affairs; Gregory R Copley, The New Total War of the Twenty-first Century and the Trigger of the Fear Pandemic, in re:  Blinken has just condemned Ethiopia. His information comes from sources hostile to Ethiopia.  Blinken wants to get back in a dominant position vis-a-vs Egypt—which the Egyptians openly refuse. As Blinken tries to curry favor with Egypt, he’ll also lose any favorable views from the Red Sea area. Right now, the US is taking sides with Egypt, ignoring relations with Israel, Jordan, Saudis, Ethiopia—failing to concentrate  on perhaps the most critical sea lane in the world: on the Red Sea. Israel would like to support Eritrea and Ethiopia to stabilize the region; Egypt thinks it has to divide and conquer. It’d be nice to think that Blinken and the administration had a coherent view, but in fact they’re years out of date.  Blinken and State are missing the boat in what constitutes a comprehensive regional view. In fact, you can regain prestige and influence without taking sides excessively.  Biden wants to appeal to the Iranian clerics to help; not a fruitful path. Blinken is blaming Ethiopia for crimes.  He sees Egypt as the big prize; but Sisi will not be a pawn of US, Russia or Europe. Ethiopia needs to strengthen ties with Saudis and Israel, and go on the intl [PR] offensive. If it fails to, it’ll suffer enormously for years. https://www.msn.com/en-ph/news/world/eritrea-killed-hundreds-in-ethiopia-ai/ar-BB1e3m08

1255: Why does the US condemn Ethiopia? Gregory R Copley, Defense and Foreign Affairs

The John Batchelor Show

Image:  Passage of the Red Sea Gregory R Copley: Defense and Foreign Affairs; Gregory R Copley, The New Total War of the Twenty-first Century and the Trigger of the Fear Pandemic, in re: A critical period in the life of East Africa:  Ethiopia has been troubled for decades because of the civil war. Now Abiy Ahmed is working to restore health; but US presses E to end Tigray violence. Blinkin [demanded]: “A growing number of credible repost of atrocities”   -- and to withdraw troops from Tigray. This is a rewrite of Clinton’s approach the problem-solving in the Balkans:  massive amts of money going into basically[a belligerent oubliette]. Clinton bought the story and many people became filthy rich.  Here, Blinken is supporting a Marxist former govt (TPLF), a secessionist group that engaged in genocide for thirty years; Obama administration doubled down; people backing TPLF now are getting all their info from TPLF, blaming the victims of the crimes. I saw massive numbers of Serbs who were killed by Croats; the photos were labelled the opposite: “Croats killed by Serbs.” TPLF is engaging in genocide against the Amhara, attributing these acts to the Amhara. Egypt is funding this. The TPLF is defeated in Tigray, but paying for a huge PR campaign in Washington. Look where Blinken’s allies got it wrong in the Balkans; and where they’re getting their info now. Egypt is also driving Sudan to attack Ethiopia because it claims a major water deficit, blaming it on Ethiopia, source of the Blue Nile. Reality is that Egypt put in the massive Aswan High Dam, with a huge lake, which Egypt could easily release to fill any claimed deficits. Ethiopia is building the Grand Renaissance Dam, which isn’t taking any water from Egypt.   Egypt’s position is entirely contrary to intl law.   Sudanese military, trying to get back in power, is working with (and taking money from) Egypt. Big deal with Russia in desalination. Egypt has its own water mismanagement problems, trying to blame them on someone else. It may go to war with Ethiopia.  If Egypt wants to prosper, it has to strike a real deal on water, and rethink how it manages the flow of water and topsoil. Why is the new Secretary of State wading in to this? Clearly, something else is at stake. https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2021/02/27/soldiers-have-killed-hundreds-of-civilians-in-tigray https://www.reuters.com/article/us-ethiopia-conflict-usa-idUSKCN2AU225

1211: Washington's endless, pointless Russia-bashing. Gregory R Copley: Defense and Foreign Affairs

The John Batchelor Show

Washington's endless, pointless Russia-bashing.  Gregory R Copley: Defense and Foreign Affairs Image:  The Archangel Monastery-Farchangelsky Monastery, Archangel. The monastery is located in an eight-sided stockade with a little block house at each corner. The church is very ancient, and quite the grandest building architecturally in Archangel, with white wall, green tiled roofs, and five big domes covered with sold gold leaf. It is easily the most picturesque of all the domed buildings in North Russia and the big mushroom-shaped domes have a striking appearance as compared with the more slender domes than some of the other churches. The roofs of the block houses and the stockade walls are bright red. This is the church which is most largely used for important funerals which are always superb performances with bands, a hearse built up on the columns with canopied roof, horses covered with white lace, and preceded by a procession of priests in gorgeous robes of gold and silver before whom is spread a continuous carpet of evergreen boughs. There is always a band that plays splendidly dignified and solemn funeral marches  Gregory R Copley: Defense and Foreign Affairs; Gregory R Copley, The New  Total War of the Twenty-first Century and the Trigger of the Fear Pandemic, in re: Washington's endless, pointless Russia-bashing. ..  .. ..  ..  .. ..  ..  .. ..  ..  .. ..
