EP#150 Growing Weeders into Leaders with Jeff McManus

The Quiet Warrior Show

In the year 2000 Jeff joined the University of Mississippi’s Ole Miss campus as the Director of Landscape Services. He brought with him the understanding that students regularly mention campus appearance as one of the key factors in their decision to enroll at a University. With that in mind, Jeff and his team developed a system of beautification and landscape management that has led to numerous awards for the Ole Miss campus. Princeton Review and Newsweek Magazine identified the University of Mississippi as our nation’s most beautiful campus. Most recently, Ole Miss was named by USA Today readers as the 2016 America’s Most Beautiful College Campus. Jeff and his staff recognize that education at its best is a community experience.  For he and his team, developing and maintaining beauty, order and safety on the Ole Miss campus is much like a higher calling. Providing faculty, staff and students with clean, safe and beautiful spaces for knowledge sharing is their mission....the recognition and awards attest to their excellence. Jeff holds a bachelor's degree in Landscape and Ornamental Horticulture from Auburn University and is a Certified Arborist. He is highly engaged in sharing his knowledge at www.jeffmcmanus.com and his most recent book, Growing Weeders into Leaders.

048 BA: Jeff McManus, Growing Weeders into Leaders

For Love of Team™ | Winston Faircloth

This is one of my favorite interviews so far.  Imagine winning multiple national championships for the most beautiful college campus in America.  At a place where tens of thousands of people are tailgating in the middle of campus during an SEC football weekend late into Saturday night.  And as dawn breaks on a peaceful Sunday morning, the mountains of trash have magically disappeared.  In that moment, you understand WHY the team at the University of Mississippi are national champions.  Taking his grounds staff, affectionately known as “weeders”, and developing them into “leaders” has been a joyous challenge that reaped acres of rewards in the form of national recognition by the Princeton Review, PGMS, Newsweek and every faculty, staff, student and visitor who has walked onto the Ole Miss Campus.  Building on that momentum, Jeff has designed a professional development plan for his Weeders called Landscape University – a replicable training program that promotes the individual’s innate ability to GROW.***Featured Guest LinksJeff McManus websiteGrowing Weeders into Leaders bookCultivate Greatness PDF text to 44222 and use the keyword cultivate2020***If you are seeking a loving and supportive online community, I invite you into one or both of the free Facebook groups I offer.  Click the link below and answer a couple of questions and you will be included.   Begin Again (personal growth)Future 7 Figure CEO (business growth)   ***So, let's draw deeper faith, inspiration and encouragement in our Begin Again moments.  Please do me a favor and check out the upcoming shows by subscribing right now on your favorite podcast app. If you like what you hear, please share with your friends and leave us an honest review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen.  Capture a screenshot of your review and email us at clientsuccess@winsightz.com for your free gift, Future 7 Figure CEO.
