A new book It’s no secret that I love books! Interviewing authors is always a chance to learn more about the person behind the words. In Mary Lenaberg’s case, she is just as down-to-earth and honest on paper as in person. As she said, she only has time to be one Mary, no matter where she is or who she is with. In this book, Be Bold in the Broken published by Ave Maria Press Mary talks about how she found “courage and purpose in God’s unconditional love.” What is the point of the book? As a speaker, Mary is often asked by women, “who am I and what am I here for?” This book answers that question. We are all unique and unrepeatable people created by God. Mary tells the stories of her mistakes that led her to have the courage to let go, be healed and encourage others on their own journey. She invites, through her words and personal stories, to open the door to the Divine Healer. Hospitality Reading this book is like sitting down to coffee with a friend. Mary is honest, vulnerable and funny. Her joy in people is evident as is her heart for serving others. If you are looking for a good read to help you draw closer to God, healing and wholeness – I highly recommend this book. Your challenge this week, offer some hospitality to others. Nothing fancy could be tea on the porch or a conversation at church. Extend yourself a little bit, be present to another person. Mary Lenaburg’s very personal story is powerfully simple: When she fought the person God wanted her to be, problems and hilarity ensued. But when she embraced and lived as the person God created her to be, the beauty unfolded. Mary also shares the heartwarming journey of raising her severely disabled daughter, Courtney, until she passed away at the young age of 22. Her hard-gained insights are valuable tools for others going through tough times as well as those helping others through life challenges.Candid about how her marriage also struggled, Mary explains how they overcame differences and problems. Her honest, caring advice for couples in conflict is real-life and hopeful. We can all relate to Mary, and, for a moment or a lifetime, wanting to be someone who we are not. And yet we are all called to be ourselves…our imperfect, broken, uniquely special selves. Mary’s story is just another reminder that the world needs you, just as you are. Normally I begin with some cute story or roundabout way of introducing a guest, but there is no need to “hide the lead”. My guest is loved for one simple true and sincere reason…she is undeniably loveable. What makes her so well liked, loved, admired, revered, sought after, and adored is her uncanny relatability. You would be hard pressed to find someone more transparent and real. You won’t find them; she is the real-deal. She is as authentic as they come. I’m talking about Mary Lenaburg of course. If Mary’s authenticity doesn’t win you over her story certainly will. Most people are aware of the immense tragedy Mary has endured. She has never held back what sadness she has faced in her life. Rarely does Mary get asked beyond just her normal stories that she is always asked to share. That’s because her experience is unique and her storytelling skills are fierce. My goal was to get a few unknown or lesser known stories out of the unofficial-official “Queen of Wisdom”. I am thrilled to say that goal was achieved. Mary is everything you think she is and everything you want her to be. You always leave loving her more and you have no idea how that was even possible. To call her a friend is a gift. To know her heart is a honor. To love her is a privilege.
