Michael Horton: Strange Notions on Justification Diagnosed - & Remedies for Our Heresies
The Laymens Lounge
Today we sit down with Michael Horton and ask him to ask him a thousand questions about justification. The doctrine of justification stands at the center of our systematic reflection on the meaning of salvation as well as our piety, mission, and life together. In his two-volume work on the doctrine of justification, Michael Horton seeks not simply to repeat noble doctrinal formulas and traditional proof texts, but to encounter the remarkable biblical justification texts in conversation with the provocative proposals that, despite a wide range of differences, have reignited the contemporary debates around justification.

Should I Be Concerned About My Child Studying World Religions in College? with Special Guest Dr. Michael Horton
Episode 525 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. Show Notes CoreChristianity.com 1. I have a friend who has questions about the Christian faith, and I don’t always feel like I have good answers. I get a lot from your show but don’t always know how to relay that to my friend. Do you have any advice on how to become better at sharing my faith? 2. My son is taking a Religious Studies class in College. Is it ok for Christians to study other world religions, or is that something I should warn him against? I’ve really done my best to help him be grounded in the Word of God but I’m nervous that his Professors might lead him astray. 3. I believe I am a sinner, but what if I don’t feel its wretchedness? Or the feelings of joy and happiness overflowing because of the forgiveness in Jesus Christ, like what I hear described in hymns? What's the Relationship Between Justice, Justification, and Black Lives Matter? with Special Guest Dr. Michael Horton
Episode 515 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. Show Notes CoreChristianity.com Key questions answered in today's show: 1. How is a person really saved? I hear preachers tell others to say a prayer, receive Christ into your heart, and then God will save you, and I don’t find any of that in the Scriptures. Could you help me out and show me where they get that from? When God saved me I didn’t do any of that. He just let me know I needed a savior and I surrendered to that tugging and pulling of the Holy Spirit on my heart. So, I don’t know, help me with that so I won’t lead people astray or be led astray myself. 2. In view of Black Lives Matter, what is the Biblical relationship between justice and justification? 3. Does how I vote matter, religiously? Does God care if I vote one way or the other? Does it matter what my reasons for voting are? Does the Bible say anything that can be applied to the topic of voting? 4. I appreciate how you distinguish between the law and the gospel on your show. I’m wondering if there are ways that we think and speak that support law rather than gospel. I blanch at taking on the mindset that within Christendom, everywhere I look there’s duties, callings, and obligations. Am I being too sensitive here? Episode 500 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. Show Notes CoreChristianity.com Key questions answered in today's show: 1. What would you say is at the core of the answers you give us? What is the heart of your show? 2. I’ve been a life-long Christian, and I believe that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I know that He sustains me, but there’s one place in my life right now that I’m fighting: loneliness. How can I seek solace in my loneliness? 3. Is there a biblical basis for preferring that heads be bowed and eyes closed when praying? In corporate prayer, when asked, “Let us bow our heads in prayer,” is it disrespectful to instead raise one’s face heavenward (which is how I like to pray)?
