Direct Support

Loooooove chatting with heroes. Dave is Canadian indie rock royalty. And though he denies being part of the "money club", there's no denying his influence on practically any indie band over the past 10 years. We talked through each of his records, discussed what makes one a "nerd", how to discern between what songs belong to what projects and the ever fluctuating relationships of a band. And though we spoke for a while, I really felt we only scratched the surface. Enjoy! 4. Virtual Varieties Tour with Dave Monks, NSW DPI.

The Citrus Segment

Knowing what is the next up and coming citrus variety which tastes good, looks great and most importantly will be well received by markets is always difficult to gauge. The New South Wales Department of Primary Industries at Dareton has a range of citrus trials underway to demonstrate new varieties to growers so they can make educated decisions. Each June, Citrus SA hosts a trip across the border to take a look at the varieties being investigated. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to growers physically visiting the orchard, but research horticulturalist Dave Monks was able to provide a ‘virtual tour’ for South Australian growers. Citrus SA has provided the audio from this presentation for your consideration. You can find fact sheets at https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/horticulture/citrus

Dave Monks

Maia, BTRtoday

"Dave Monks - best known as the bandleader of Canadian indie rock band Tokyo Police Club - doesn’t waste any time. For the past several years, he’s used the downtime from TPC to work on his solo music with a focus on his voice and acoustic guitar, resulting in his first solo full length being released just ahead of a new record from his other band. Here, he presents a stripped-down taste of some of his newest tunes, accompanied by Alyson McNamara, at Serious Business Music in Brooklyn.Dave Monks’ first solo LP, On A Wave, is available now from Dine Alone Records.00:00 - Dave Monks00:33 - Cannibal03:53 - Interview - Dave Monks07:49 - No One’s Child11:22 - Interview - Dave Monks13:25 - Gasoline17:14 - Interview - Dave Monks18:34 - Don’t Go Falling To Pieces21:42 - Interview - Dave Monks25:01 - On A Wave28:53 - Interview - Dave Monks33:35 - Outro33:58 - Finish"

The Resistance

This week, we have a special bonus episode that deviates from our typical interview format. Last week, Tokyo Police Club frontman Dave Monks sat down to discuss The Resistance, and in our conversation, he disclosed a list he keeps in his writing journal that lists rules he's picked up along the way as an artist. Aptly titled Rules For Artists, Monks graciously agreed to share those lessons learned with us in this special one-off episode.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dave Monks (Tokyo Police Club) with Katie Monks (Dilly Dally)

Talkhouse Podcast

“I don’t know if this is a therapy session or a podcast,” says Katie Monks (Dilly Dally) part way through this conversation with her brother Dave Monks (Tokyo Police Club). We here at Talkhouse think it’s a bit of both. We're also excited to premiere a never-before-heard ambient collaboration between Katie and Dave. The sibling frontpeople chopped it up in their hometown of Toronto, and their talk takes in a lot: how they saved each others’ bands; the life lessons they learned from those two kids down the street who copied everything they did; their upbringing, and how it influenced their artistry; and learning about religion through The Simpsons.Subscribe now to stay in the loop on future episodes of the Talkhouse Podcast. Feel free to DM me to let me know which artist(s) you’d love to see appear on a future episode. —Elia Einhorn, Talkhouse Podcast host and producerThis episode was recorded at Dine Alone in Toronto, and by Mark Yoshizumi at Hook and Fade Studios in Brooklyn. It was co-produced by Mark Yoshizumi. The Talkhouse Podcast’s theme song was composed and performed by The Range.
