Sitton's playing career began at youth level at Arsenal and Chelsea, where he turned down an approach from Crystal Palace before signing professional terms at Stamford Bridge in 1977. After making several appearances, Sitton fell out of favour with then-manager Geoff Hurst,[4] and, after turning down an approach from Wimbledon, transferred to Fourth Division Millwall for £10,000 in February 1980 under George Petchey. Sitton enjoyed his time at Millwall but new manager Peter Anderson took an instant dislike to Sitton and sold him to Third Division side Gillingham in September 1981 and spent four seasons there under manager Keith Peacock before being signed by Frank Clark for Fourth Division side Leyton Orient on a free transfer in July 1985 where he was made club captain.

Sitton started to work on his coaching badges in 1988, staffing coaching courses via the London FA at the FA training centre at Lilleshall under the FA Coaching Education Scheme until 1997, alongside such future managers as Alan Pardew and Kenny Jackett. At Lilleshall, Sitton coached youth players such as future Tottenham Hotspur and England player Ledley King.

That Millwall Podcast episode 6 John Sitton Interview Part 2

Episode 6  is the second in a three part special with John Sitton this time we talk about his time at millwall and his views on the current set up, plus we speak about who coaches the managers with football and ask him his views on whether the football season carrys on or should it finish right now.
If you don't know who John is then this will help.
John  had a career spanning four clubs, Chelsea, Millwall, Gillingham and Leyton Orient from 1976 -1991. I have played in all four divisions of English professional football.
I have coached from 1988-1997 and worked as a Coach Educator from 1990 to 1997. During this period I also worked as an Academy Coach, Youth Team Coach, First Team Coach and Co Manager at Leyton Orient Football Club.
When you’ve had to scrap, battle, kick bollocks and bite just to get by and survive you just hope to have more good memories than bad ones. Unfortunately it’s part of our make up as human beings that the not so good memories get highlighted. All my good work that at the time was over a period of twenty two years was washed away in a fifty three minute documentary.

I’ve even said it to my wife it’s ironic, if that’s the right word, that the thousand times I may have been polite, courteous, cooperative, funny and good company gets washed away by a rant or me complaining or standing my ground. I suppose even if the things you say have substance, it’s down to how you word things, but I believe political correctness is just another way to keep you down.

Not self-pity, just a fact. By and large it’s a fact I can just about live with.

The way I see it if you can’t go through life as a man and be yourself, what’s the point?

S5 Ep7 - John Sitton shot to fame for all the wrong reasons in the mid 90s after a C4 doc "Orient: Club for a Fiver" where he was more 'aggressive' to his players during a half time rant than was considered acceptable and was ostracised from the game. He sets the record straight as well as telling a stupid amount of amazing stories from his time in the game... He also swears quite a bit. Starring: Ian Smith, Rob Beckett, Jimmy Bullard and John Sitton The Magic Sponge is a Dot Dot Dot Production for Dave, produced by Joel Porter and assistant producer Dorian James
