Yoga & Body Image: Curvy Yoga and Anna Guest-Jelley
Is yoga the answer to healing body image? Anna Guest-Jelley, creator and teacher of Curvy Yoga shares her journey from biofeedback for migraines to a life-long yoga practice. She dispels the myth that body acceptance is a finish line rather than a daily practice, (much like her yoga practice). For an extra treat, Anna talks about how yoga informed her process around fertility challenges, pregnancy, giving birth, and breastfeeding. Quotable Mom-ents “I tallied up I had been on sixty-five different diets. When I saw that number, it was a stark moment I don’t think I’ll ever forget where I realized if sixty-five diets had not ‘worked’ the answer probably did not lie the sixty-sixth. I needed a whole different approach to my body.” “Because of all these different diets, I had no connection to my body. I had outsourced everything about hunger.” “…for years yoga teachers said ‘notice what is happening in your back or your breath or your big toe’ or whatever and I thought ‘that’s hilarious, they only talk in metaphors.’ Then one day I realized they weren’t talking in metaphor and people felt this the whole time. It took me that long to realize it.” “The more I felt in my body, the more I developed a relationship and conversation that contributed to how I felt about my body. They fed each other back and forth — it was not like one lead to the other.” “It’s still a process. It is not like I just snapped my fingers, accepted my body and then the end.” “My body had not been the problem in yoga, they just had not learned how to teach bodies like mine.” “I think most yoga teachers are well-intentioned and mean it when they say our classes are for everyone. But having that intention in your heart is not the same or enough as having the skills to back that up.” “For me as a yoga teacher, as long as people are safe, I don’t care what their yoga pose looks like. I don’t want to look out and see everyone looking the same because that doesn’t make sense, every body is different.” Helpful Links Explore Curvy Yoga Follow Anna on Instagram Follow Anna on Twitter Follow Anna on Facebook If you liked this interview, listen to these Momma Bites! episodes: More to Love Yoga with Rachel Estapa Mother of Momma Strong: Courtney Wyckoff Fitness is a Feeling with Angela Hawthorne The post Yoga & Body Image: Curvy Yoga and Anna Guest-Jelley appeared first on .

The Tiffany Han Show (formerly Raise Your Hand Say Yes)
Ooh, I loved getting to talk with Anna Guest-Jelley, founder of Curvy Yoga, for this week. We talked about so much good stuff: embodiment, spirituality, business evolution, creative instincts, body acceptance, permission. All of it around how to move forward when you know there's something more for you. And while it's easy to only think about evolution when you hit a place of burnout, it's actually critical to realize that - in creativity - we're all evolving all the time. So, yay! Evolution is exciting! Oh, and it happens whether we realize it or not, so let's all get in the driver's seat, eh?
