Significance Breeds Success

Stephen “Shanghai Six” Machuga is a 1998 graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Russian linguistics on an ROTC scholarship. Captain Machuga is a former Army Infantry/Military Intelligence officer and Airborne Ranger, having spent the majority of his service at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne Division. In 2003, he deployed to Iraq with 2nd Infantry Division and whittled through the seemingly endless 13-month deployment with the help of video games.Captain Machuga left the service in 2006, where he spent 10 years in Washington DC as a government counter-terrorism analyst across a variety of agencies, doing charity work on the weekends. Over time, the weekend charity work was where he realized that he had found his true calling, and has since picked up and moved the entire organization to Los Angeles, where the opportunities in the games and entertainment industry are everywhere.https://stackup.org/team/stephen-machuga/Follow Me Online Here:YouTube: http://youtube.com/danielpuderInstagram: http://instagram.com/danielpuderFacebook: http://facebook.com/danielpuderSnapchat: http://snapchat.com/add/daniepuderWebsite: http://danielpuder.comTwitter: http://twitter.com/danielpuderOfficial Website: http://danielpuder.com—Daniel is an advocate for education as a daily learner, while his vision is to create inspired, passionate, loving youth who are committed to lead significant and purpose driven lives! INTERVIEW: Stack Up, Growth, and Gaming with Stephen Machuga

But Why Tho? the podcast

It's been three years since our paths crossed with the military gaming charity Stack-Up. Back then the podcast was still in it's first year, on its first episode, and they were recording in the middle of a hallway on the last day of PAX South 2017. Now, at PAX South 2020, the leading military gaming charity has been featured at The Game Awards, been included as a veteran resource in the national database, and have created a partnership with the CDC to help lower the high number of suicides among the veteran community. We got the chance to speak with CEO and founder Stephen Machuga about the growth his team has had since we last spoke with him three years ago. As Machuga explained, the years since have been filled with growth, most specifically in the charity's mental health arm since it was a awarded a grant by the CDC. Through that program, Stack-Up found that they could meet people where they are, using games a distraction, and allowing veterans and civilians to open up.
