2019 Retrospective - 10 Years as PMPs Working in Agile with Jesse Fewell

Agile and Project Management - DrunkenPM Radio

It has been 10 years since Jesse Fewell and I became Certified Scrum Trainers. We both came to it from backgrounds deeply rooted in traditional project management. We were both PMPs, which was something like a scarlet letter in the Agile community. Ten years… things have changed. In this episode of The Reluctant Agilist, Jesse Fewell and I close out 2019 with a retrospective of sorts, looking back at how things have evolved from a time where Agile and traditional project management were considered to be opposite approaches, to a place where practitioners are starting to understand how to use both for the benefit of our customers and clients. Jesse and I also look forward and share our opinions on where things are headed and what traditional and/or agile project managers need to focus on in order to stay relevant in the job market over the coming years.Happy New Year! The Evolving Role of the PMO in an Agile Organization - Catching Up With Jesse Fewell

Agile and Project Management - DrunkenPM Radio

"Consistency is the junk food of management."As 2019 gets underway the Reluctant Agilist checks in with Jesse Fewell on his primary areas of focus heading into the New Year. During this episode of the podcast Dave and Jesse discuss the current state of traditional PM vs. Agile, the role of the PMO in an Agile organization and how both of these topics have evolved since they began trying to develop programming aimed at helping PMP's move to a more Agile state. Jesse and Dave both come from a background deeply stepped in traditional project management before finding their way to Agile. Since then a large portion of their time has been spent working on helping traditional PMs find an easier path to agility and in helping to solve the great question of how the PMO can remain relevant in a traditional organization that is working through Agile transformation.Links from the PodcastThe Leadership Circle https://leadershipcircle.comMastering Leadership https://amzn.to/2CQIB6hScaling Leadership https://amzn.to/2FVHvdGBible in a Year App on iTunes: https://apple.co/2DHqBdjJesse's Upcoming EventsPMI versus Agile: Adversaries or allies?https://www.meetup.com/Agile-Fredericksburg/events/256845346/The Agile PMO Workshop: https://jessefewell.com/the-agile-pmo-pittsburgh-pa-february-8/ProjectCon: https://projectconevent.com/Global Scrum Gathering Austin 2019 https://events.scrumalliance.org/austin-2019 Contacting JesseWeb: https://jessefewell.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/jessefewellLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jessefewell/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/jessefewell

Is PMP still worth it if I am doing Agile? - w/ Jesse Fewell

Agile and Project Management - DrunkenPM Radio

In each of my CSM and CSPO classes someone asks “Should I still get PMP?”In this podcast I got the chance to check in with Jesse Fewell on the value of certification. Jesse and I have been friends since 2008 when we both started working on trying to find ways to get PMI to pay attention to Agile. We both come from a traditional background, have been heavily involved with PMI and now make a living teaching Scrum certification classes. Jesse and I debate the answer to the PMP certification question and along the way, discuss our differing views on the value of PMI-ACP, CSM and CSPO certifications. These are things we don’t always see eye to eye on, so regardless of your viewpoint, there is sure to be something in here to help you see things from a different perspective. We also have a brief conversation about what do to about PMO’s in Agile organizations.Note: You may hear some odd background noise.
