Girl and The Gov, The Podcast

This episode, the first in the series, is set to equip you with the basics of climate change through the lens of Aaron Burgess, Director of Climate Policy at Tom Steyer PAC. An expert and policy maven in the field, Aaron’s work and insights offer a foundational knowledge on everything from defining climate change to understanding big-name policies like the Paris Climate Agreement. His skill at explaining this complex topic is top-notch and can be credited to his time as a teacher back in the day (shoutout to all teachers being rockstars). This week’s guest on ourVoices is the billionaire philanthropist, environmental activist, and former presidential candidate, Tom Steyer. Since leaving the corporate sector, Steyer has pursued an active political career. In 2013 he launched the nonprofit organization NextGen America, which mobilizes young people to vote for Democratic candidates who back progressive positions on climate change, immigration, and education. Last year, Steyer launched his own outside bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. Running on a platform that forefronted the climate crisis, he also advocated for a wealth tax and reparations for slavery. Recently named a co-chair of Vice President Joe Biden’s Climate Engagement Advisory Council – Aaron White and Freddie Stuart asked Steyer about Biden’s newly released climate plan, and whether there is a consensus forming in the Democratic Party around a bold environmental justice agenda.
In this episode I speak with 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate, and super successful businessman turned progressive cause champion, Tom Steyer, on how he came to be so committed to serving the future through climate change initiatives, registering young voters, business and jobs recovery and much more.
