EP 84 - Calvin Corzine and Paul Teodo

Super stoked to welcome not only two guys I can call my friends, but they're also two really wonderful yoga teachers. Los Angeles and Bali based yoga teachers Calvin Corzine and Paul Teodo join me today on the Spiritual Spiral Podcast. Paul was in town for just a day before flying to Arizona and since Calvin and Paul used to be roommates, I thought it would be cool to create a sort of roundtable discussion and talk about the current state of yoga. Should yoga be considered a fitness modality or looked at as a practice that can provide more depth and introspection? Are yoga teachers susceptible to becoming egomaniacal or is it just a part of the "god complex" that can arise when you're a teacher? We also talk Bikram, Jois, meditation, the importance of finding a good mentor, the differences and similarities between the yoga cultures of LA and Bali and of course we talk about tech and social media. You can find Paul on Instagram @teodoyogaguitar and Calvin @calvmonster. If you enjoy the show, please remember to share it with your friends or head on over to iTunes and write a quick review. You can also support the show by visiting my Patreon page at patreon.com/eddiecohn. As always, thanks so much for listening and supporting the show.

#24 Calvin Corzine – Motivated by the Feeling of Falling Behind

Play
Read more

Calvin Corzine (@calvmonster) is a yoga teacher who grew up surrounded by a community submerged in yoga. An athlete from an early age, sports held center focus. Calvin’s love for sports continues–he’s a die hard Lakers fan who never shies from excitement in the physical world, surfing, practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and pilates.

Calvin has more than 500 hours of training with some of the best teachers in the world, including Vinnie Marino, Jenny Aurthur, Jesse Schein, Sharath Jois, and many more. This intentional, rigorous training has greatly influenced his well-rounded teaching style, which is a distinct blend of Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Iyengar.

In this episode, we talk to Calvin about his journey into yoga, his rigorous training regimen and the motivation behind it - related to both a heart condition and the mindset of falling behind, how he came up with his ice bath rants, and much more.

Enjoy!

EP 63 - Calvin Corzine (Emergency Pod)

Los Angeles based yoga teacher and my friend Calvin Corzine joins me for a special yoga edition "Emergency Podcast." A couple months ago, Calvin came up with the idea of posting "tub talks" where he shares his views or poses questions about various topics surrounding the yoga community. In his latest post, he asks his followers if "pretty pictures" inspire or ultimately make people feel jealous or bad about themselves. We talk about his intention behind the videos and if bringing more comments and dialogue onto a social media platform is a good or bad idea. We also discuss Alexa Terrazas, the young woman who fell off of her balcony while posing for Instagram doing an extreme yoga posture. Be sure to follow Cal on IG @calvmonster and if you feel inspired, head on over to iTunes and write a quick review for the show. Thanks so much for listening!

EP 9 - Calvin Corzine

This week, I welcome my friend and yoga teacher, Calvin Corzine to the Downward Facing Spiritual Spiral Podcast. I met Calvin a few years ago at Yoga Works where he has become one of the premier yoga instructors in Los Angeles. Similar to his personality, Calvin's classes are always fun and full of great energy. Calvin's laid back personality always adds levity and good vibes to class while challenging his students with dynamic and unique sequencing coupled with long holds.

I'll ask him about the trend seen in today's yoga culture where there seems to be more of a focus on the physical and less of an interest on the spiritual side of the practice.  We'll talk about his relationship with yoga and what drew him to the practice and how he navigates using Instagram in this day and age. Is Instagram good or bad for the yoga community or is it just mirroring our culture's obsession with looking "perfect" all the time?

We'll talk about Instagram and the "fake personas" so many people seem to portray and the impact this may have on our culture as well as the yoga community. He will share how he started working with Alo Yoga and I'll ask if there is a right or wrong way for apparel companies to advertise their "brands" on Instagram.

All of this and more on this week's podcast. Enjoy the show!
