Walk It Out #99: What Am I Feeling with Dr. Joshua and Christi Straub

Walk it Out with Tricia Goyer

What Am I Feeling with Dr. Joshua and Christi Straub There is no better time to talk to your kids about their feelings than right now. In fact, we could all use a good listening ear as we navigate these trying times. Sometimes, entering our child’s world is very difficult. But do it. Put your to-do list away, turn your phone off, and give your child the exact thing he/she craves—your undivided attention and time. You’ll come to find that it was really the best part of YOUR day! Let them be kids. So often as adults we try to dictate the play. I think it’s because, like the loudest kid in the group, we want to have our way. Be on our phone. Tackle our to-do list. Or at the very least play something that’s remotely interesting to us. But when we do that, we too easily miss out on discovering what our kid’s interests are. Finding what makes them come alive. That’s great advice from Dr. Josh and Christi Straub. It’s just what we need to hear. And our conversation today really stresses the importance of teaching our kids to understand their emotions. It truly can help them today and in their future! I loved our chat, and I know you will, too. Who are Dr. Joshua and Christi Straub? Dr. Josh and Christi Straub are both Fellows of the Townsend Institute for Leadership and Counseling. They also co-host the Famous at Home podcast and Facebook Live broadcast that reaches thousands of families. Joshua is the author/coauthor of four books including Safe House: How Emotional Safety is the Key to Raising Kids Who Live, Love and Lead Well. Joshua and Christi spend time on the lake on their 1974 Crestliner, train their disobedient puppy, and watch their kids crush karaoke on a stage built in their dining room. You can order What Am I Feeling? HERE. Help kids navigate their emotions! About the Book: What Am I Feeling helps families understand a biblically grounded way for children to verbalize their feelings, develop empathy and self-control, and understand their wonderful God-given emotions. https://www.triciagoyer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Help-Kids-Process-Emotions-Capture-Memories-2.mp4 Walk It Out Scripture So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Family health, happiness, and embracing our emotions with Christi Straub

The Alli Worthington Show

I’m with the delightful Christi Straub. Christi is a licensed family and marriage counselor. Christi shares about the challenges she sees most families facing today. She also talks about why owning and naming emotions is so crucial, both for parents and children. In this episode we discuss: 1. Breaking the busy cycles in family life 2. The most important thing our children need from us 3. Why emotional safety is a vital part of your family's health Favorite quotes: 1. I think once we start to really see ourselves as just a human, or our spouses as human, and our kids as humans, we start to recognize our individual strengths and weaknesses and we’re not trying so hard to create little super beings that they’re not going to be. There’s a whole lot of rest and peace and purpose that comes from that! 2. A feeling is just a feeling, it’s not in charge of you. 3. We have to first name and recognize what we’re feeling in order to gain control of it so it doesn’t get to control us. 4. Are we creating an environment that is emotionally safe? Meaning that emotions are talked about and that starts with us. Are we modeling emotions? In this episode I answer these questions: 1. How can I get my kids to do chores? They’re 6 and 8. (47:54) 2. What is your take on the law of attraction? (51:46) 3. How do I know if I’m ready for a business coach? (56:51)  Links to great things we discussed: 1. Christi Straub 2. What Am I Feeling 3. Hunter Brothers- Lost 4. Kids Baking Championship 5. Isagenix 6. Godzilla:King of the Monsters 7. Dark Phoenix 8. Red Rocks Worship: Nobody Like You 9. FABFITFUN Use code ALLI to save $10.00 10. Josh and Christi are the real deal. Highly educated, faith-filled, and articulate communicators. In today's special interview episode, we talked about what it takes to have an emotionally safe marriage.
