EP 013: Standing out in a crowded place w/ Actor & Screenwriter Riley Westling
DogEared Book Club
I don't think there's enough room to express how obsessed I am with Riley. He's a dear friend of mine from CU Boulder. Particularly, you'll hear a very funny story in the beginning of the episode. Riley is an Actor and Screenwriter, works for 20th Century!!! He just finished writing for a show, Our Kind of People and is staring in a show on Discovery +, The Book of Queer. A show that I’m so excited to watch. The fact that we’ve gone from fearless leaders and hidden heroes shaping LGBTQ history, but now there’s a show about it?! It makes me so blessed to be living here NOW. This episode is BEYOND silly. BEYOND. I really wanted to keep the silliness in this episode, so you can feel like you’re sitting with two dear friends chatting about mental health, books, being an imposter, our love for Haruki Murakami. Totally get it if it’s a bit over the top to you, because we’re a little silly and over the top. But this is what you’ll get. That Thing You Do! (1996) With Jeremy Culhane & Riley Westling
You've Got Hanks
*Clap Clap* *Clap* We're doing that thing we do again, and this time, we're talking Colin Hanks! For the first episode of Season 2, I had to ask back my first guests from Season 1 — Jeremy Culhane (@jazzy_jelly) and Riley Westling (@rileywestling) — to discuss That Thing You Do! (1996). Even though it's a brief cameo, Colin really kills it in this movie written, directed, and starring his dad, Tom Hanks. I recap some #FunFacts I learned about this movie from The Wonders, and we design some Hanks Kerchiefs. Also, Jeremy and Riley find out which members of The Oneders they are. You can too here. Also, Sam calls in for our first ever "Call-In Colin" segment. If you'd like to be a part of the next "Call-In Colin," call (805) 622-9667 & Hanks for listening! TOM HANKS WROTE ME A LETTER! That's right, Thomas Jeffrey Hanks wrote little ol' me a typewritten letter. Why'd he do it? Well, you got to listen to the episode to find out. Also, I reveal what's in store for season two. Let me know what your favorite Tom Hanks movie is @youvegothanks. THE Riley Westling (@rileywestling) puts together our mix for this week, and it's full of Beyonce, Jessie J, Taylor Swift, and Mamma Mia! Riley went to two different high schools, and his playlist accurately reflects that change. We talk about Riley's choice for a VH1 Divas Live, our love of Glee, and how Riley knows all the dance moves to Beyonce's Homecoming. Let me know what you're listening to @thisisthemix. He Knows You're Alone (1980) with Riley Westling & Jeremy Culhane
You've Got Hanks
Starting off our Tom Hanks' journey with his first-ever movie, He Knows You're Alone, with special guests Riley Westling (@rileywestling) and Jeremy Culhane (@jazzy__jelly). This horror movie is all about a bride-to-be being stalked by some random man who's out to kill anyone remotely related to getting married. It may have been a scary movie, but the scariest part was how long it took for us to get to Tom's scene. Although it was a small part, Tom makes the most of it as his charming self. We also talk about how annoying Marvin is, and find out if Riley and Jeremy would survive a horror movie. Do you think you could survive? Let me know on Twitter or Instagram @youvegothanks. — SHOW INFORMATIONInstagram: Instagram Twitter: Twitter Subscribe: Apple Podcasts Subscribe: Spotify
