18. Let's Just Talk About Bipolar disorder with Erez Shek

Café with Monica

You are so bipolar! The weather is so bipolar!  We have to stop using this word as an adjective to describe. Bipolar disorder is a serious medical condition that affects around 60 million people worldwide.  People with bipolar disorder experience a pattern of depressive and manic or hypomanic episodes. It can impact a person’s mood, energy levels, and ability to function. It’s not the same as being moody or unpredictable. Today my guest Erez and I talk about his journey getting his diagnosis and how labels do not define us as a person.  Erez is the creator and host of The Shek Check podcast, which is dedicated to normalizing conversations around how we think, feel and behave. In his podcast, you will hear the real and raw conversations he has with his guests from all around the world. His motto is “Let's check ourselves before we wreck ourselves.'' Guest Contact: Follow Erez on Instagram, and check out his website. For information on this episode check out the show notes here.

The Stigma is KILLING Us with Erez Shek | PSYC 101 Session #17

PSYC 101

Erez Shek was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in 1999 and ever since has been on his own rocky journey to find the truest of acceptance that means living with a mental illness, not being one. After surviving a suicide attempt in September 2016, Erez decided he would do whatever he could do to inspire that living with a Mental Illness is possible and to educate that Mental Health is something every single person should be aware of. Its not just for people living with a Mental Illness.Teaching those who do not live with (or affected by) a Mental Illness about what they are, and that we are still individuals with the hope people understand that none of us are Textbook Definitions. Erez created THE SHEK CHECK on YouTube to create video's that take a comedic (and sometimes musical) approach to addressing Mental Health Awareness and educating on Mental Illness as he continues his journey while working on his first Memoir. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/psyc101/support
