We dedicate this episode to the unheralded teammates that help pro golfers find sucess.
We share many caddy stories on this episode, from ones submitted via our social media channels, to audio clips from pro caddies who have been part of wins on the PGA and the LPGA Tour.
Joining us for a lengthy feature interview is Scott Martin. The Montreal native spent 23 years caddying, mostly on the PGA TOUR but starting on the Canadian Tour and finishing on the PGA TOUR Champions. He shares the high and lows of looping and the emotional curve balls along the way. From being deep in debt, to winning, to confrontations with players who disrespected him. And he tells us why the life hooked him in even when many would call it quits. It's honest, entertaining, and a deep inside look at the career few endure for so long.
Birdie vs Bogey is chock full of caddy questions and, as always, your MailBag questions make us put on our thinking caps as we formulate opinions on the matters you care about.

In this week's episode of 'Under the Strap,' host T.J. Auclair welcomed longtime friend Scott Martin -- a caddie on the PGA Tour for over two decades before retiring last March. Martin left looping for a job in the film industry back in his home of Montreal. In this pod, he shared some incredible stories about his life as a caddie -- the highs and the lows, including an intense dust up with Vijay Singh during a tournament -- a firing that was a blessing in disguise, his love of photography, continuing to chase a dream despite racking up serious debt, being on a couple of winning bags and a lot more. You don't want to miss this one!

Parks! Outdoors! Quality of place! A community is often defined by the quality of its public spaces, and Scott Martin chats about how Louisville can become an even greater, healthier, and more equitable community by working on our park systems. Here are more show notes:
Book recommendation: The Nature Fix by Florence Williams http://www.florencewilliams.com/the-nature-fix
www.riverheritageconservancy.org (also on social media)
Scott's Recommendations for local things to do/see
Hays Kennedy Park (one of our park named for a prominent African-American leaders – a great story by itself that is undertold). Add the Garvin Brown Preserve next door and it is a wonderful waterfront complex. https://louisvilleky.gov/government/parks/park-list/hays-kennedy-park
Mammoth Cave Cedar Sink Trail (great day trip for families). To see the spot where entire creeks vanish underground and how the caves shape the land above them is like stepping into a landscape crafted for Narnia or Lord of the Rings. https://www.nps.gov/maca/planyourvisit/trails.htm
Big South Fork Recreation Area (off the beaten path, but a massive memory maker of a uniquely Appalachian landscape and zone that makes you feel worlds away from Louisville) https://www.nps.gov/biso/index.htm
And O’Bannon State Park – just a fascinating state park with an ecology that seems like a piece of the Smokies that snuck away and hid in Southern Indiana. The perfect day trip for Louisville folks that want to get off the grid. I just learned about this site a few years ago and I find it more and more interesting each time I visit. The blue river is right there, too. Great paddling when everything else in the area dries up. https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2976.htm
And in the podcast we talk about the Knobstone Trail, and here is some info about that https://www.in.gov/dnr/forestry/4224.htm

I’m Scott and have been a marketer for 25 years across branding, strategy, and advertising, and execution. After working with tons of high-profile national brands, I was tired of businesses without soul and that continued to throw money at advertising without measurable impact on the bottom line. I learned all the behind-the-scenes detailed execution and power of content for building attention and trust with an audience.
In 2016, I launched Groundswell Marketing to support entrepreneurs with strategic marketing: the foundational, forward-thinking, and sustainable parts of their business

Finally, Scott is writing a book which will likely feature a compilation of ideas from his 25+ years in business.
