Episode 38: An Oral History of Yo Soy Milk [w/ Johnny Murphy & Seamus Gildner]
Pat & Jon on Their Best Behavior
Jon promised Pat he would finally stop talking about his college band on the podcast if they dedicated an episode to it, so the boys are joined by Jon's Yo Soy Milk bandmates, Johnny Murphy and Seamus Gilder, to discuss the trio's (in)famous presence in the Skidmore music scene. They talk about the varied response to their music, buying carloads of $2.99 six-packs at Stewart's for gigs, and their favorite songs/places to play. Pat gets inspired to learn the recorder! Check out Seamus' band Tatemama on Spotify, Apple Music, and Instagram (@tatemamaband)! Check out Johnny's solo music on Bandcamp (https://murphdaddy.bandcamp.com)! When it comes to coaching a football team, before you can teach x’s and o’s, you must lay a foundation. A foundation of principles and expectations. Once the team understands and accepts these values then they learn how each of them plays a crucial role in the process. That is how coaches create culture. The values you place within that culture are up to you. Johnny Murphy has been coaching culture since playing football in college. He teaches these fundamentals, not only his players but within his own family and his community. For the past 2 years, he has also been a student, recently completing his MBA. All this while juggling a full-time career. Although Coach Murphy gets a lot of praise for his teams’ victories on the field, it’s the coaching he does off the field that has a far more significant impact. Called to Serve as a man of God, Johnny Murphy teaches so much more than just athletics. He has continuously served as a leader of young men and for the past several years has taught an early morning scripture study for local high schoolers. This episode was not due to be released for another week or two but as of today, Bishop Murphy has been asked to coach a much bigger team. After listening to our conversation, I think you will understand why. Learn how to create a culture within your own team from my recent conversation with Johnny Murphy. https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnny-murphy-11770a1/ Background Track - Ever Felt.
