Can I Kick It FC
In this episode of Can I Kick it, we welcome Jake Payne of 50 plus Doner on the show to go through the career of Edwin Kostedde. Together, we comb through the career of the dubbed "The Black Pearl" of Germany as he was looked to replace Gerd Muller. In the back half of the podcast we about race in Germany and how Black Players are using their voice in the league. Bio: Can I Kick it is a brand new podcast built on telling the stories of Black athletes, coaches, and owners that have impacted the game of soccer on and off the pitch. With all the wonderful footballers from Africa, Europe, The Caribbeans, and The Americas, it is shocking to see that no one has made a podcast dedicated to them. Each episode breaks down the career path of each person and focuses on their impact. Follow the show on Twitter at @rivercity93 or on Instagram @rivercity93. 14: Jake Payne of FC Cologne Chicago and Black Fires
With focusing the show recently on the Bundesliga, I knew I wanted to have Jake back on the show to talk about his love for Cologne, how that developed in the first place, and give him the opportunity to pitch listeners on joining him. And we get to that, as well as talk about Cologne's Monday night defeat at home to RB Leipzig. But first, if there was going to be a show at all this week, it couldn't just be about soccer given how trivial sports in general feel at this moment. Jake gives his thoughts on the demonstrations of solidarity and support we've seen in pro soccer this weekend, particularly in the Bundesliga, and how the protests of the murder of George Floyd have seen a lack of leadership from the American soccer leadership when compared to elsewhere.
We just talk about the economy and 4/20. Jake’s snap: jakepayne91--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/appSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jacob-denton1/support
The USWNT won the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament and Alyssa Naeher didn't allow a single goal the entire time! The USWNT will be back in March and the Red Stars are in camp soon, meanwhile the Fire are off to California for the second half of their preseason but still don't have any more new signings. After the news, I'm joined by Jake Payne, co-founder of Black Fires, a black culture-focused Fire and Red Stars supporters group. We talked about Black Fires' Black History Month event from this past weekend, how the group started, what they see as their mission, the impact they hope to have on Chicago soccer, and their goals for 2020.
