In this episode of the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast, Julia talks with Trish Everett. Trish is a single mum and a communication consultant and mindset coach. We discuss communicating with the ex and creating a positive mindset in difficult times. Communicating with our ex can be at times challenging and Trish provides lots of useful advice on this topic - hearing the other person but standing up for ourselves in the co-parenting relationship, taking responsibility for our own emotions, how to get a great co-parenting relationship, how to communicate effectively, and how to communicate with a very difficult ex. She also tells us how to create a positive mindset in the difficult times, and this includes thinking of our challenges as an opportunity to help us grow as a person.  We also discuss how she felt when becoming a single mum, the benefit of building up your own community to have around you, how she herself has used the (at times) challenging single mum journey to help her grow, and she also shares her advice for single mums. Episode 042 - Communicating effectively with your ex and creating a positive mindset in the difficult times, with Trish Everett

I have long been a complete #fangirl of Trish Everett's. From following her around on social media, to casual Skype chats about one thing or another, I lap up pretty much everything she put out into the world. In early 2016, my husby and I completed her signature program, Sweet Talk - an online couple's communication course LIKE NO OTHER. When you do a communication course, you expect to 'learn' about open language, body talk and active listening. Sweet Talk was SO MUCH MORE. Anyone who's ever spoken to me for more than 5 minutes will probably have heard me wax lyrical about Trish and Sweet Talk and the immensely deep shifts I felt during and since the course. Trish took us through processes to uncover our relationship styles (eek), our behaviour (double eek) and our needs (eeeeeeek!) and one of my biggest takeaways was about Personal Responsibility... that is:- Owning your own stuff- Not owning everyone else's- Standing in and honouring your own truth- "I am powerful" (not just responsible)- The Cereal Bowl of Doom- Setting boundaries, moving them and respecting others'- What actually ARE my needs- How do I communicate my needs- How can I meet my own needs- Why do I 'have to' do this- Who am I doing all this for?

TRISH EVERETT  Be Radically You Trish Everett is an Inner Story Coach and Communication educator. She specialising in helping individuals and couples live with a sense of belonging and personal power which she describes as, Being Radically You. Trish is an educator and wellness professional with an academic streak.  She’s been both a teacher and a principal in a remote aboriginal school and has over 17 years of experience in helping both children and adults regain their personal power. Currently, she’s a lecturer of Wellness Coaching and Wellness and Lifestyle at RMIT University, Victoria Australia Trish talks with me about what it means to belong. What does sense of belonging mean. Some of the questions she explores are: Are you living the story of the ugly ducking, feeling like you don’t fit in, that you’re not enough? She helps her clients dive into that story, and see where it is caught up, where it has lost its fluidity, where you can’t turn the page.  And how to unhook you from reading the same chapter, over and over again.
