Henry Tudor
The Story of Wales
In 1485, Henry Tudor landed on the coast of Pembrokeshire and began a campaign to take the crown of England, an objective which he achieved in his victory over Richard III in the Battle of Bosworth. Henry carried a Welsh dragon flag. But how Welsh was he? He was born in Wales, he was a quarter Welsh, he had important Welsh ancestors in Anglesey and he picked up a lot of support from the Welsh gentry. But this invasion was really the climax of the Wars of the Roses and Henry was taking the throne for the Lancastrian side in that conflict. Wales was probably not that important to him.
