On this day in Tudor history, 7th August 1485, Henry Tudor, the soon-to-be King Henry VII, returned from exile, landing at Mill Bay in Wales. His intention was, of course, to claim the throne of England and to depose King Richard III. Claire Ridgway, founder of the Tudor Society, shares two accounts of his landing and explains what Henry did next. You can see this podcast as a video at the following link:https://youtu.be/MFXjSkJVi8c You can find Claire at:https://www.theanneboleynfiles.com https://www.tudorsociety.comhttps://www.facebook.com/theanneboleynfiles/https://www.facebook.com/tudorsociety/https://twitter.com/AnneBoleynFiles https://twitter.com/thetudorsociety https://www.instagram.com/tudor.society/ https://www.instagram.com/anneboleynfiles/

In 1485, Henry Tudor landed on the coast of Pembrokeshire and began a campaign to take the crown of England, an objective which he achieved in his victory over Richard III in the Battle of Bosworth. Henry carried a Welsh dragon flag. But how Welsh was he? He was born in Wales, he was a quarter Welsh, he had important Welsh ancestors in Anglesey and he picked up a lot of support from the Welsh gentry. But this invasion was really the climax of the Wars of the Roses and Henry was taking the throne for the Lancastrian side in that conflict. Wales was probably not that important to him.
