The People Pod - Luke Mcleod #004

This week on the podcast we are talking to a good friend of mine Luke Mcleod.

Luke is owner and director of online guided mediation program called Soul Alive.

We break down the stereotypes that often surround meditation, the benefits 15 minutes a day of mediating can bring to your life and just what you can expect to find out about yourself when you hit that zen state.

Also I try a live guided meditation which ends up being a bit of a laugh.

For someone like myself that has never really given the time to mediation this was a conversation I was extremely interested to have.

Ep. 170 Luke Mcleod — Meditation & Anxiety - How Men Can Implement It Into Their Lives.

In this episode, I caught up with a good mate Luke Mcleod. We chat about how we first connected through LuluLemon and then more about his journey to founding Soulalive and how meditation has been a huge part of his life over the past 10 years. I wanted to have Luke on the show because, for me, he is still relatable as an everyday bloke. Yet has some incredible practices that allow him to control stress & anxiety.

All of your support means so much.

Luke Mcleod, founder of Soul Society and Soul Alive; on his journey from the Australian military to “meditation entrepreneur” via an Ashram in India.

Luke McLeod is the founder of the Soul Society and Soul Alive; a growing community of like-minded people united to live balanced, fulfilled lives.

In this episode of the Human Potential Podcast Luke talks with our host, Oliver Freer, about breaking down the challenges and stereotypes of meditation; why 'leaving your tribe' is important and developing positive lifelong habits to deal with stress, anxiety & depression.

More about Luke McLeod

Luke dropped out of school and joined the army for five years and then went to study business and started a team building business with his friend whilst in University. He is now in the process of writing his first book.

Luke found meditation around ten years ago and he originally used it as a tool to improve work performance. However, at the being of 2016, he experienced a series of events in a three-month period that rocked him. This included the end of ten-year relationship, a shocking business failure, a major falling out with a close friend combined with his father and his brother-in-law simultaneously being diagnosed with cancer. After the traumatic series of events he found himself at an ashram in India where he immersed himself in the different teachings and traditions of meditation.

The key lesson he learnt through the trauma and subsequent teachings is that when there's no one to turn to you can turn inwards and find everything you need. “All the answers lay there and as long as you're still breathing you have everything you need. Everything else is just a bonus or a lesson”.

Coming back to Australia from India, Luke has made it his mission to try and introduce meditation to as many people as possible.

Over the past four years Luke’s guided meditations have been embraced by thousands all around the world and he has worked to bring the benefits of meditation into the corporate world including the likes of American Express, KPMG & Lululemon.

Luke’s latest venture, Soul Alive, aims to help introduce meditation to the broader community in a convenient and relatable manner.

Luke McLeod’s Book recommendation

Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl

A book written in 1946 chronicling the author’s experiences as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camp during World War II and the key lesson he learned from surviving the trauma.

Luke McLeod is a wellness consultant and passionate meditator, whose mission has become to help others reach their potential and find balance in a meaningful and accessible way.
Luke first appeared on our screens as a front runner in the race for Sophie Monk’s heart on The Bachelorette. Sadly for Soph, that didn’t pan out.
It wasn't long before Luke was back looking for love in the inaugural Australian season of Bachelor in Paradise, catapulting him into the spotlight once more.
When his relationship on the show went the way of many, Luke suddenly found himself at the centre of the wrath of the Bachie fanatics.
For many of the people who knew Luke well, the move into reality television seemed like a surprising choice for the former Army officer and philosophical soul. But a transformative experience in India following the breakdown of just about every part of his life, had left Luke open to new experiences in a way he had never been before.
In this episode, Luke shares his experiences behind the scenes on The Bachelorette and BIP, his relative fall from grace in the eyes of the Bachie fans and his thoughts on the responsibilities of the networks to provide ongoing care for participants, well beyond their contractual screen time.
Luke shares his journey through devastating losses, to finding meaning and strength in meditation, and the drive he feels to share what he has learned along the way.
He is passionate about helping others reach their potential and allow themselves the time to just “be”. He does this through his teaching platform Soul Alive, offering guided meditation and support in a thoroughly modern, accessible and affordable way.
