60 Six Years Leading World Population Balance: Dave Gardner Reflects

The Overpopulation Podcast

Podcast co-host Dave Gardner reflects on the agony and the ecstasy of working to alert, educate, and inspire action to end our overpopulation crisis. Nandita Bajaj turns the table and interviews Gardner about his 6 years on the podcast and serving as executive director of World Population Balance. Who IS this guy? Why has he been working seven days a week for years to alert people about population overshoot and to “save the planet?” Don’t worry, Dave’s not leaving the podcast. But on May 1 he is stepping out of his position leading World Population Balance, the nonprofit standing up for the rights of future generations to live in a world worth inheriting. Gardner reflects on the state of the issue, and what progress has been made. He also shares his assessment of some of the obstacles to our work – including news media, economists, the population taboo, overpopulation denial, myths, misassumptions, and baby bust alarmism. Our next episode will announce and introduce World Population Balance’s new executive director. Don’t miss it! Our mission is to chart a path for human civilization that – rather than causing greater misery – enables good lives on a healthy planet. We advocate and support a smaller, truly sustainable human population – through voluntary reduction in birth rates.  We envision a world where no one suffers in dire poverty and misery for lack of enough food, water, and other basic needs. We see a world where all species thrive and where lower consumption and population are in balance with Earth’s finite resources. Who You Gonna Call? Growthbusters! (with Dave Gardner)

The Steady Stater

If there's something strange in your economy, who you gonna call? Growthbusters! And that's exactly what we did. In this episode, Brian chats with renowned podcaster, conservationist, and director of the movie Growthbusters: Hooked on Growth, Dave Gardner, about advancing the steady state economy, his forays into local politics, and his laudable, affable, and often (intentionally) laughable efforts to put de-growth on the big screen.

Episode 41: A Titanic Talk with Guide Dave Gardner

Joanna & Kevin’s Big Show

Dave GardnerIt’s the ship everyone has heard about. For the 41st episode of the podcast—still recorded remotely—Joanna and Kevin’s Big Show welcomes tour guide Dave Gardner who offers RMS Titanic walking tours. Dave has a wealth of knowledge about the fateful 1912 voyage and offers insightful (and fun) tours of locations around Manhattan that have ties to the shipwreck. His tours are packed with history and we get the scoop on how they came about. You can learn more on his Facebook page. Joanna and Kevin are both doing creative endeavors during the stay-at-home time period. On Fridays at 5pm Jo hosts a virtual happy hour. And Kevin has virtual walking tours. We realize the sound quality isn’t as good as what you’d get from NPR. The show is being recorded via Zoom, so we are still working out the kinks to make it sound better. During this crisis, we plan to put out more podcasts. For more about the hosts, follow Jo online and Twitter @JoannaPokerDocs and Insta @joannadocs and her YouTube Channel. Kevin is online here and Twitter @k72ndst and Insta @k72ndst. Our Facebook Page is here. Please like and review us. The Schizophonics - explosive live band's new LP produced by Dave Gardner (Hot Snakes, RFTC

Catalog of Interviews and Bits

"Makers of high octane, soulful garage punk... Get an early taste with smoking' stomper 'Battle Line'." -- BrooklynVegan"Their live show is a turbo-charged, bombastic display of true blue rock'n'roll chaos. It's not just a wild live show; the songs are fantastic too!" -- RazorCake (cover story)San Diego trio The Schizophonics announce their forthcoming sophomore album, People In The Sky today. BrooklynVegan premiered the first single "Battle Line" yesterday, which is available now to hear and share via BrooklyVegan, YouTube, Bandcamp and Spotify. The band takes its jaw-dropping live show on the road for headlining dates throughout North America this October. Please see current dates below. Over the last few years, The Schizophonics have built up a formidable reputation around the world as an explosive live act. Tapping into the same unstoppable combination of rock 'n' roll energy and showmanship that fueled The MC5 in the heyday of the Grande Ballroom, their wild live show is heavily influenced by artists like James Brown, Iggy Pop, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard, and The Sonics. Singer/guitarist Pat Beers and drummer Lety Beers formed the band in San Diego in 2009 and have worked tirelessly since then, playing hundreds of shows around the globe and winning 7 (SEVEN!) San Diego music awards. In 2013 they were recruited as the backing/opening band for El Vez, which helped the band make a name for itself in Europe. Since then, they've played in fourteen countries, and supported tours by like-minded acts like Rocket From The Crypt, Little Barrie, and The Woggles and have opened for The Damned, The Hives and Cage The Elephant. Shindig magazine described their live show "Like watching some insane hybrid of Wayne Kramer, James Brown, and the Tazmanian Devil." "One of my favorite live bands ever," proclaims Tim Mays, who has run the Casbah in San Diego for 30 years and has seen literally thousands of live bands come through his doors. "The Schizophonics bring the goods every time they play," he enthuses. The band is more than just an outstanding live act, they're also committed to writing great, memorable songs. After releasing 2 singles and an EP over the last few years on Munster, Ugly Things, and Pig Baby Records, they put out their first full-length album in July 2017 titled Land Of The Living on the label Sympathy For The Record Industry with famed record man Long Gone John. In January of 2019 they started work on their second LP recruiting Da
