Nash Tackle Off The Hook Podcast - S2 Episode 38 - Jeremy Wade

The Official Nash Tackle Podcast

This week joining Hassan in the podcast studio is global fishing superstar, biologist, author and star of the hit television series “River Monsters” Jeremy Wade.Fishing meets worldwide celebrity in this unprecedented podcast, we still can’t believe we managed to get him on. I think it’s safe to say and as you’re about to discover Jeremy Wade is in a league of his own. Jeremy sets the scene by talking about his carp fishing exploits in the 1970s and 1980’s in which time he managed to catch his current personal carp of 26lbs+ from Waveney Valley lakes back in 1977. Spoiler alert he has since managed to break that fishing our very own Nash Church Lake. Jeremy was also one of the youngest members of the British Carp Study Group (BCSG) joining at the age of just sixteen years old. Fishing was always in his blood and over his teenage years he shaped his choices to hopefully led him to a career where he could immerse himself in this passion for angling and water. After a number of different jobs in various sectors and armed with a Zoology degree Jeremy set out following another burning desire and that is to travel and explore. He soon made yearly pilgrimages to the likes of India and The Amazon in search of infamous exotic large freshwater species such as Golden Mahseer and the Arapaima. Year after year he refined his location and gained intel on these species and a chance meeting with a  director led to him filming “Jungle Hooks” his first appearance on tv. The series featured him landing an incredible hand line caught 100lb+ Arapaima and surviving a plane crash. The series was extremely successful, and he moved some years later to film “Jungle Hooks India” a series in which the world was brought the first filmed sightings of the man eating Goonch catfish.Jeremy continued to live on a shoestring spending much off his time travelling or planning new adventures. He sold articles and photographs, but it was the development of “River Monsters” some years later that burst him into the public eye in incredible style. Jeremy talks about the process of filming these episodes along with the dangerous and incredible stories of things that happened “off camera” along the way. Jeremy talks about his favourite captures and locations as well as his appreciation for the team around him that make these amazing programmes come to life. After nine series River Monsters clearly struck a huge chord with a massive cross section of TV audiences and that’s something that still humbles Jeremy to this very day. From huge giant Thailand stingray through to incredible man-eating bull sharks Jeremy tells the most incredible tales of these fearsome beasts that have succumbed to his rod and line. He also shares the story of his sound man being struck by lighting, him being held and gun point and him having to “sexually assault” a crocodile in the name of science. Finally, Jeremy discusses his goals and ambitions for the future as well as how he has handled his newfound celebrity. He talks about his love for UK fishing as well as one or two revelations about himself and his personal life outside of his tv work.Jeremy is a true gentleman, utter professional and incredibly intelligent. His stories and accounts will keep you hooked (no pun intended) through out but underneath it all there lies an extremely determined individual who has dedicated and sacrificed his whole life to shedding light on the real-life mysteries within freshwater, what a man and what a life!

Catching Monster Fish ft Jeremy Wade #59

The Bearded Tit‘s Podcast

This week I’m chatting to legendary tv angler Jeremy wade, This the last in of a series of podcasts this month talking to influential and celebrity anglers. I’m also working on a crowd funder this month Britains hidden fishes which I’m aiming to make a 1 hour long film on British fish, think blue planet but a much smaller budget and coincidentally Jeremy is narrating that film, there’s a link to that in the description. I remember watching Jeremy in jungle hooks a few years before he blew up on river monsters and it was such breath of fresh air seeing all these weird and wonderful fish being caught by someone who was engaging and clearly invested in these animals. Jeremy has spent nearly 40 years trailing around the world catching fish and has since written books and started in many tv shows like river monsters, dark waters and mighty rivers. We talk about about the monsters that eluded him, his break into television and a catfish that swims up your penis along with loads of other adventures he’s been on. New Perspectives on the Letter to Galatians - Dr. Jeremy Wade Barrier (Part 2)

Delgado Podcast

This is part two of our discussion with Dr. Jeremy Wade Barrier about his twelve-year journey researching ancient manuscripts and writing his latest book “Witch Hunt in Galatia,” a book providing a new perspective on ways to understand Paul’s letter to the Galatians. Dr. Jeremy Wade Barrier is the Assistant Professor of Biblical Literature at Heritage Christian University and also did postdoctoral work as a Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow under Tobias Nicklas at the Universitat Regensburg, Germany. His last book "The Acts of Paul and Thecla: A Critical Introduction and Commentary" was written in 2009. He earned his PhD in Biblical Interpretations at the Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. Check out his latest Book: Witch Hunt in Galtaia: Magic, Medicine & Ritual and the Occassion of Paul's Letter to the Galatians. https://www.amazon.com/Jeremy-Wade-Barrier/dp/1978709757 Approximately 2,000 years ago, some Jewish communities of Galatia in central Asia Minor believed they had fallen under a curse, argues Jeremy Wade Barrier. A fellow Jew named Paul wrote the letter we call Galatians to help them escape its effects. In the letter, Barrier argues, Paul called for the Jews in Galatia to stop practicing circumcision. The rite had fallen into disuse within many Jewish communities in the Roman Empire, but Barrier argues the Galatian Jews believed it was a talisman that would protect them from harm. As a further precaution, they needed to deal with the person who had brought this evil to their community. A witch hunt was underway, and some had concluded that the witch was none other than Paul. Barrier provides a reconstruction of the original occasion of Paul’s letter to the Galatians and shows how Paul defended himself from accusations of witchcraft by countering that the ritual that would protect them from the “Evil Eye” was not circumcision, but rather baptism. Through the ritual of baptism, they could receive healing from a material, yet divine, “breath” of God. Barrier also reconstructs an earlier understanding of this pneuma that was lost to subsequent Christianity under the influence of Neoplatonism. Blog post: http://www.mikedelgado.org/podcast/barrier/

New Perspectives on Paul & Letter to Galatians - Dr. Jeremy Wade Barrier (Part 1)

Delgado Podcast

A discussion with Dr. Jeremy Wade Barrier about his twelve-year journey researching ancient manuscripts and writing his latest book “Witch Hunt in Galatia,” a book providing a new perspective on ways to understand Paul’s letter to the Galatians. Dr. Barrier also challenges us to read the Bible with a critical eye -- and to question those passages that trouble us. He also shares reasons why some Christians are resistant to new scholarship on Scripture -- and why it’s important to consider the latest research to get a better understanding into the culture and meaning behind Biblical texts.
