Andrea Isabelle Lucas, owner of Barre & Soul, author of “Own It All,” and the founder of Barre Guild Academy joined host Michelle DuVall to swap entrepreneurial stories and goals. Having started her teaching career with Exhale Spa and Fred DeVito and Elisabeth Halfpapp, Andrea shares some lessons that she learned early on that have stayed with her. Michelle and Andrea discuss Ester Fairfax’s warm, welcoming personality coupled with her impressive showmanship and performance quality. They also mention the insights into her world that Ester’s memoir, “My Improper Mother and Me, “ provided each of them. The original Lotte Berk training program, run by her daughter Ester Fairfax challenged Andrea’s perspective on teaching and helped her grow to encompass more into her personal teaching style. Andrea Isabelle Lucas on Teenage Pregnancy, Stripping, and Healing from Domestic Violence
Real Talk Radio with Nicole Antoinette
Andrea Isabelle Lucas is a powerhouse of emotional honesty and entrepreneurial wisdom. She was a teenage mother, a domestic violence survivor, and is now the founder of Barre & Soul, a 7-figure company with over 50 employees that offers signature barre classes, yoga, aerial yoga, and teacher training in the Boston area. Andrea is also a writer, and she uses her blog, Fit Feminist, to share her story and raise awareness about women's issues, gender equality, and the importance of mind-body wellness. As an entertainer, her background includes stripping, circus arts, and performing with a burlesque troupe - all things she has explored in order to cultivate positive body image and get in touch with her own sexuality, which is something she empowers women to do to help them feel fully alive and present in their bodies and themselves. In this episode (which is one of my very favorite to date), Andrea owns her past and her story in a beautifully empowering way while fully opening up about having a child at 19, working as a stripper, leaving an abusive relationship, putting herself through college and spending 10 years earning her degree, and now being the proud (and wildly successful) owner of multiple yoga and barre studios in the Boston area. We talk about everything from compassion and forgiveness to anger and even the challenges of aging gracefully as a woman in the US. Through it all, Andrea is honest, self-aware, and kind, and it was a true delight to have her on the show. I hope you end this episode feeling as uplifted as I did! (more…)
