Jacob Erickson: The Becoming of a Lutheran Queer Eco-Process Theologian from North Dakota

Homebrewed Christianity Podcast

BOOM! Jake Erickson is back on the podcast. This one is a complete blast. In our conversation we discuss…– The origin story of a Lutheran queer eco-process theologian from North Dakota– an exploration of religion & violence– exploring sexuality, queerness and desire– god is queer– after an orgasm tell God you’re welcome– how purity culture destroys community– divine eroticism– Biblical authority in a Process style– feeling the trauma when you can’t fix the violence– moral agency w/out a redemption story– one of the big lies that shapes us, is that we are alone. It is in our relationality and community we find the power for creative transformation– post-Covid theology– thinking American from the outside– dead people Jake loves to think with– shout out to Marjorie Suchocki’s prayer bookJacob J. Erickson is Assistant Professor of Theological Ethics at Trinity College Dublin. He previously taught Religion and Environmental Studies at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, USA. Jacob Erickson: a Theopoetics of the Earth

Homebrewed Christianity Podcast

Jacob J. Erickson is Assistant Professor of Theological Ethics at Trinity College Dublin. He previously taught Religion and Environmental Studies at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, USA. There is no good reason not to follow him on twitter. This conversation came after a Jacob gave a lecture in the Theology and Ethics seminar at New College, University of Edinburgh and then we got lost trying to find Brew Dog & their super legit cauliflower buffalo wings. Things that came up… a theopoetics of the earth relearning religion and spirituality in light of the planetary crisis coming to process thought through a theology of the cross the problems of logocentrism “salvation is not carbon neutral” the gospel without eternal conscious torment grief and the ecological crisis we both loved this book by Thomas Attig, How We Grieve: Relearning the World the practical relativism of climate denialJoin the Online Reading Group Marjorie Suchocki is awesome and we both dig this text – A Fall to Violence youth ministry and the anxiety of climate change is it ethical to have children? is that even the best way to ask the question?
