Harold Innis on Peter Pond and the Art of Biography
Witness to Yesterday (The Champlain Society Podcast on Canadian History)
Patrice Dutil discusses the work of Canadian historian Harold Innis with William Buxton of Concordia University, the author of Harold Innis on Peter Pond: Biography, Cultural Memory and the Continental Fur Trade (McGill-Queen’s University Press). Peter Pond was an important explorer and developer of the fur trade, but in the hands of Harold Innis, his story reveals the tensions in that developing sector of Canadian business. Buxton sees Harold Innis playing a dual role: both as a chronicler of Canadian business history and as a promoter of cultural memory. This podcast was produced by Jessica Schmidt.
