Ken Sluiter is a secret weapon He's is a recording engineer, producer, and mixer out of Chicago. He moved to Los Angeles in 2003, where he worked alongside legendary producers and engineers, such as Andrew Scheps, Greg Fidelman, Joe Chiccarelli and Jim Scott. He has an amazing list of credits that includes a staggering list of talent like James Blunt, Weezer, Augustines, Ok Go, Heart, Marc Almond, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. As Ken put it, he has had his "head between speakers for the better part of 25 years."

My guest today is Ken Sluiter, a grammy-nominated recording engineer/producer/mixer whose credits include artists such as Heart, Jerry Lee Lewis, James Blunt, Andra Day and Weezer.  His work can also be heard on many records from indie-icons including Mekons, The Jesus Lizard and Ok Go. Working closely with producer Joe Chiccarelli, Ken has recently mixed several projects for artists such as Morrissey, Flogging Molly, Augustines, Night Riots and Divine Fits. Ken has also recorded and mixed several film and TV scores with composer, Brian Reitzell which include “Hannibal” (NBC) and “American Gods (STARZ). As a producer, Ken has worked on soundtrack songs with Debbie Harry and Shirley Manson, Siouxsie Sioux, Marc Almond and the B-52's. He worked with Dave Trumfio and Mike Hagler at Kingsize Sound Labs recording bands like Wilco, Billy Bragg, Andrew Bird, Steve Earle, OKGO, My Morning Jacket, Jesus Lizard, and hundreds of other bands, while also playing in the new wave revival band, The Pulsars. By 2003, Ken moved to Los Angeles where he assisted Andrew Scheps on Weezer’s “Red Album”, Greg Fidleman on Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “I’m With You” and Jim Scott on multiple records. In 2009, Ken engineered and mixed two records for Jerry Lee Lewis with legendary drummer Jim Keltner as producer.  This included doing overdubs with a “who’s who” of rock royalty, including Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty, Shelby Lynne, Kris Kristofferson, Robbie Robertson, Nils Lofgren, Aaron Neville, Mavis Staples, Gillian Welch and Jon Brion.
