Ohio Huntsman - Where Are The Deer?

Sportsmen's Nation - Whitetail Hunting

This week on the show we talked about where to find the deer when they are not where you expected them to be.  We talk about common mistakes hunters make when planning where to hunt. We specifically discuss hunting old sign that was made during a different time of year.  We also discussed how using summer sightings to determine fall/winter deer stands can often lead to frustration.  Another factor that can cause you to not see deer on a stand that is otherwise good is too much human pressure from other hunters or yourself. Ohio Huntsman - Duck Stamp Artwork

Sportsmen's Nation - Whitetail Hunting

This week on the Ohio Huntsman Podcast we discuss the recent changes related to the artwork for the federal duck stamp.  The federal duck stamp has provided an enormous amount of conservation dollars for waterfowl habitat and the bulk of that money comes from waterfowl hunters.  In order to show appreciation for that contribution, there was a requirement added to the artwork competition.  The artwork for the stamp for 2021 had to include a hunting aspect in order to be chosen.  This requirement was removed after this year, so we discussed what we thought about the change and also what precedence a change like this could set for future decisions being made.  We also discussed if we felt like this was an attempt to further separate hunters from the millions of conservation dollars they raise. Ohio Huntsman - All Good Things Come To An End

Sportsmen's Nation - Whitetail Hunting

This week on the show we announce to our listeners that we have decided to bring an end to the podcast.  This journey has been a very rewarding experience for us, but all good things must come to an end.  We are no longer able to dedicate the time and energy we feel are required to produce quality content.  We have growing families that are and always will be our top priority.  We hope to continue to interact with you all and the community we've built through our social media channels.  We appreciate each and every listener for giving us an hour of your time once a week.  Thank you all and be sure to send us any questions you have for the final Q&A episode! Ohio Huntsman - Fishing Kayaks

Sportsmen's Nation - Fishing

This week on the show Jeff discusses his experiences with kayak fishing.  We discuss different types of kayaks and the features each has that are good for fishing.  Jeff talks about all the factors that went into his decision to purchase each of his kayaks and what features he wishes his kayak had, now that he has been put a few seasons in fishing from it.  He also talks about how comfort plays a large role in being successful while fishing from a kayak, as there is much less room to adjust your position inside a small boat.  Jeff also discusses how he manages his tackle box and other gear all while attempting to not lose anything into the water.  Another consideration that needs to go into the decision to fish from a kayak is the boat traffic on the lake because motorized boats will create waves that can be difficult to navigate while fishing.  If you have ever wondered what it is like to fish from a kayak or wanted to hear from someone who has experience doing it, this episode will answer most if not all your questions. Ohio Huntsman - The Story Of Ohio's Native Brook Trout

Sportsmen's Nation - Fishing

This week on the show we talk with Curt Wagner from the ODNR Division of Wildlife about Ohio's only native inland trout species.  Ohio's Brook Trout was once thought to be completely eradicated by most industry professionals; however, there was a small native population left in Northeast Ohio.  We discuss how and where the trout were discovered and also what efforts have been done to attempt to preserve/grow the population and preserve their native habitat.  This is a super interesting conversation to learn about a native Ohio fish species that you probably didn't even know existed!  Enjoy!
