Building Queertopia: Suzi Ruffell

Building Queertopia

This week, Shane and Chelcee welcome comedian and podcaster Suzi Ruffell to their new queer utopia. Suzi has strong feelings about how people should treat others in this new society. And she’s thought of some strict rules and regulations. Through their conversation, the presenters learn about London's lesbian night life scene in the 1930s and the personal reason behind Suzi’s decision to bring the film Pride to Queertopia. Finally, Shane and Chelcee ask Suzi if there is anything we could be doing right now to make real life better for the queer community. The hope is that in the process of building this fictional paradise, they might just hit on ways to make reality that little bit better for…everyone. Want to have a say? Suzi Ruffell - The Principal

The Moon Under Water

To quote Samuel Johnson: “There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man, by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern”. And whilst we agree with what Sam was saying, we think that listening to comedian and writer Suzi Ruffell create her dream pub will bring you even more happiness than the tavern he kept banging on about. As she's poured a pint by Landlord John Robins and pulls up a stool at the bar next to the ever-present Robin Allender, Suzi picks the 7 drinks that will populate her dream tap house and reminisces about pub memories past. What pictures will adorn the walls? What wildcard drink will be on offer? Will it be the sort of pub where singalongs are encouraged? All will be revealed in due course.Want to contact the Landlord? Blank Podcast with Giles Paley-Phillips & Jim Daly

Suzi Ruffell is a comedian, actor and writer. She began her stand-up[ career in 2006 and has been touring extensively ever since. Suzi has regularly appeared on many panel shows including Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats and The Last Leg. Since October 2015,she has co-hosted the podcast Like Minded Friends with comedian Tom Allen and this year she started the podcast Out with Suzi Ruffell. We began by talking about school and how at times is was extremely challenging for Suzi because of her dyslexia, but also how drama and performing gave her a focus and a distraction and eventually led her to stand-up. Suzi tells us about being dazzled by visiting the West End on a school trip and how that moment was the start of her creative journey. Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theblankpodcast.
