03. I said “Three!”: how to narrow down values to actionable top-3 with John Waid, Founder of Corporate Culture Consulting

Dusha

How many values should a company have? 3? 5? 20? Each company finds the right answer for itself (well, 20 is clearly too much, but you got my point). But our today’s guest has a clear answer for each company. John Waid, founder and CEO of Corporate Culture Consulting, states it clear — there should be 3 values, no more, no less. Moreover, John says that each of these three values has its own role and purpose (more on that in the podcast). John shared how his approach helps people, companies and even countries stay connected and increase their results with corporate culture. We discussed cases of Delta, SouthWest Airlines, Boeing, KFC and many more companies, explored the influence of values on the numbers and wrapped up with a really great discussion of the role of a leader in the culture work. The key insight for us was the decision to focus on 3 values connected to their single purpose. You may find this decision not practical for your company, but that’s not important — the real gold here is that each value should be questioned  “Why do we need it as a group and what does it help us to achieve?”. That way your values will really drive your results and behaviors of employees. Have a great time listening to this episode!

EP 224: Agency culture redefined with John Waid

Build a Better Agency Podcast

Culture matters. As agency owners and leaders, we get that. And we love creating a “great culture.” But, developing a great culture is about more than beer o’clock and having a ping pong table. Yes, fun is important. But if you want to attract and retain the top talent in your industry, that alone is not going to cut it. John Waid of Corporate Culture Consulting joins us on this episode of Build A Better Agency to teach us a fresh approach to developing agency culture. He explains how to identify and define your organization’s culture, so you can align it with your strategic goals. By focusing on organizational culture instead of a more superficial definition culture, we create an environment where the best employees want to stay and thrive. It enables us to map out our core values so we can weave them into the DNA of the agency and establish clear rules of engagement for clients, peers, and leadership alike. John has a very unique perspective on how culture comes to life and how you can foster a culture that is outcome-focused. This conversation will reshape your perspective even if you think you have this one nailed. A big thank you to our podcast’s presenting sponsor, White Label IQ. Episode 105: Change Company Culture to Create a Point of Difference with John Waid

Recruit & Retain: Trucking Edition

What do Southwest Airlines, Chick-fil-A and Trader Joes all have in common? They’ve all invested in their company culture and as a result they not only provide an outstanding service to their customers, they also run really great businesses. “If you change the way you do things at your company, you will stand out, you'll be different, you'll be unique, and you won't look like every other trucking company”. This is the advice today’s guest, John Waid, shares with listeners. John knows what he’s talking about when it comes to company culture. He’s the founder and CEO of Corporate Culture Consulting, a company specializing in aligning an organization's culture with its strategic goals. John is also an author, a speaker, a facilitator, and a thought leader in the area of corporate culture, and how it positively impacts people and companies. John follows the Colin Powell method of knowledge when it comes to understanding company culture, and that is: “if it doesn't fit on an index card it’s too complicated. If it's too complicated, it won't get executed. If it doesn't get executed, then why are we here?” So if you want to change your company culture then you need to implement three unique values at your company and use those three values to drive three functional areas:  Results Growth Aspiration But deciding that you want to change the company culture is the easy part, the 2%, the hard part, the other 98%, is the doing part, and that’s what Chad and John discuss in this episode.  What you’ll learn about in this episode: How company culture can set you apart from the other carriers The benefits, both soft and hard, of investing in company culture How to change your mindset Why company culture is far reaching How company values inspire growth Training employees in company values Company culture reduces risk How to connect with John Waid: LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnwaid/ URL - https://corporatecultureconsulting.com/ Phone - 1-404-915-3051 Email - john@johnwaid.com or jwaid@corporatecultureconsulting.com Amazon - Reinventing Ralph - John Waid
