The Stop Wall Street Landlords Act & The Housing Crisis with Congressman Ro Khanna (CA)
Girl and The Gov, The Podcast
The housing crisis the US of A has found itself in isn’t the result of just one cause or catalyst – it’s a plethora of issues, including the mass purchasing of residential properties by institutional investors. In other words, the ol’ Wall Street crew is playing grab and go with homes at a considerable scale across this country, leading to unaffordable housing, inflated pricing and bidding wars, and a huge cut to the middle and lower markets. It’s a bit complicated, it’s a bit econ 101, and it’s a bit easier to understand with the help of Congressman Ro Khanna of California who has introduced a bill to solve this issue. The bill – the Stop Wall Street Landlords Act – is the central focus of the conversation and how it can solve a critical piece of this policy puzzle. We also define what an institutional investor is so, don’t fret, we’ve got the banking basics in here too.PS have more q’s? Why Does This California Congressman Care about Jobs in Kentucky? with Rep. Ro Khanna
Uncommon Ground with Van Jones
“You have this phenomenal wealth-generation going on. Yet you still have so much of the country totally left out – half the country, if not more, thinking the American dream isn't gonna be available for their kids.”U.S. Rep. Ro Khanna is an uncommon Congressperson. He represents California’s 17th district – a district with one of the highest concentrations of billionaires in the country. But he is adamant that we should tax billionaires fairly. He represents Silicon Valley, yet he works across the aisle with Republican leaders in Kentucky to foster opportunities and bring tech jobs to rural parts of the country. All while still upholding the interests of his own constituents. Why does he do this? From his grandfather’s role in the Indian Independence Movement to his parents’ immigration to the United States, the Khanna family’s journey is a living embodiment of the American dream. And now as a Congressman, he wants to keep that dream alive. New episodes of Uncommon Ground with Van Jones release weekly, every Wednesday. How can you get outside of your bubble? What can you invest in to increase opportunity? Call 347-770-2785 and leave Van a voicemail. Your comment or question will be recorded, and may be played and answered on a future episode of Uncommon Ground!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Consumers deserve an inflation rebate (with Congressman Ro Khanna)
Pitchfork Economics with Nick Hanauer

Is Alt-Protein a National Security Issue? Rep. Ro Khanna Thinks So
Business for Good Podcast
Many already believe that fostering an alt-protein industry in the US is important for helping the environment, but is it also going to protect American national security? We’re already importing much of our clean energy tech from Asia, but will we soon be importing our clean protein from other parts of the world, too? Congressman Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California representing Silicon Valley, doesn’t want that to happen. He’s not only called on USDA to invest in alt-protein, he’s recently introduced a bill in Congress calling on the Director of National Intelligence to submit an intelligence report on the effects of increased production and consumption of alternative proteins on American national security. The bill even calls for the DNI to explore whether, and to what extent, progress in the production and consumption of alternative proteins made by foreign countries like China constitutes a competitive threat to American economic interests.

Rep. Ro Khanna: Digital Opportunity for All
Commonwealth Club of California Podcast
Information technology has fundamentally changed the daily lives of Americans - crunching years of data in seconds and automating seemingly infinitely complex tasks. Yet, as congressman Ro Khanna warns, technological progress has great power to either hurt or heal the country—creating division and furthering inequality if left unchecked, or creating opportunity and healing fractures if carefully directed. It is by keeping an eye on the least fortunate while channeling digital innovation, he argues, that we can create positive change. In his latest book, Dignity in the Digital Age, congressman Khanna explains how democratic access to technology can strengthen every sector of the economy, create more inclusive communities and mend a fractured country. Using “progressive capitalism” to create jobs and opportunities for all Americans, especially the least fortunate, he gives a blueprint of how to direct the future of the tech industry to be a powerful agent for positive change.Congressman Ro Khanna has represented California's Silicon Valley in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2016 and serves as chair of the House Oversight Subcommittee on the Environment. Before his time in Congress, he served as the deputy assistant secretary of the Department of Commerce in the Obama administration and has taught economics and law at Stanford University. In the House of Representatives, Rep. Khanna has been a leading voice for tech equality, climate change accountability and the social responsibility of corporations.Join us, as Rep. Khanna explains how the digital revolution got us to where we are now—and explains where it can take us from here at this critical time in American history.SPEAKERSRo KhannaU.S. Representative (D-CA, District 17); Author, Dignity in a Digital Age: Making Tech Work for All of Us; Twitter @RepRoKhannaAhmad ThomasPresident & CEO, Silicon Valley Leadership Group—ModeratorIn response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently hosting all of our live programming via YouTube live stream.
